25. Detroit Metal City
Synopsis – Detroit Metal City (DMC) is a quickly rising independent death metal band. They garner fame by performing wild live shows and writing songs filled with hate, violence, and rape. The band is fronted by Sōichi Negishi, who takes on the stage name Krauser II. On stage, he is a wild, unchained beast. Off-stage he is a tranquil, tender-loving person who enjoys Swedish pop music. He hates himself as Krauser and his two personalities collide, making his private life very difficult.

Synopsis – Tsukamoto Tenma is an ordinary 2nd-year high school student who has fallen in love with one of her classmates, Karasuma Ooji. However, currently, she is unable to confess her feelings to him. To make things worse, she found out that Karasuma is transferring to another school in a year. On the other hand, Tenma’s other classmate, Harima Kenji (who is a delinquent) is also in love with Tenma. Not being able to confess his feelings, Harima gets depressed day by day.

Synopsis – Set in Arakawa, Tokyo, the series tells the story of Kou Ichinomiya, a man who has accomplished everything by himself. Ever since he was little, his father has taught him one rule: to never be indebted to another person. One day by accident, he falls into the Arakawa River and almost drowns. A girl by the name of Nino rescues him and, in return, he owes her his life. Unable to accept the fact that he is indebted to her, he asks her about a way for him to repay her. In the end, she tells him to love her, beginning Kou’s life of living under a bridge. However, as Kou starts to learn, Arakawa is a place full of weirdos and all of the people living under the bridge are what society would call “denpasan”.

Synopsis – The story of My Bride Is a Mermaid revolves around a young teenage boy named Nagasumi Michishio. One day during his summer vacation at the Seto Inland Sea, Nagasumi is saved from drowning by a mermaid named Sun Seto. Under mermaid law, however, either the mermaid whose identity was revealed or the human who saw the mermaid must be executed. In an attempt to save both Nagasumi and Sun’s lives, Sun’s family (which is the head of a mermaid Yakuza group) reluctantly decides that the two are to be married. Sun’s father Gōzaburō is enraged about his daughter’s sudden marriage. Between Gōzaburō’s constant attempts on his life and the madcap antics of a slew of antagonists, Nagasumi has a hard time transitioning into his new married lifestyle.

Synopsis – Set in a family restaurant in Hokkaido, the northern prefecture of Japan, 16-year-old high school student Sōta Takanashi works part-time along with his strange co-workers: Popura Taneshima, a high school girl who—despite being a year older than Sōta—is easily mistaken for an elementary/middle schooler, and Kyoko Shirafuji, the 28-year-old store manager who does not bother to do any work at all.

Synopsis – The series focuses on Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who, inspired by his childhood idol and powerful pirate “Red Haired” Shanks, sets off on a journey from the East Blue Sea to find the famed treasure One Piece and proclaim himself the King of the Pirates. In an effort to organize his own crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy rescues and befriends a swordsman named Roronoa Zoro, and they head off in search of the One Piece. They acquire a ship named the Going Merry and engage in confrontations with notorious pirates of the East Blue. As Luffy and his crew set out on their adventures, others join the crew later in the series, including the doctor and anthropomorphized reindeer Tony Tony Chopper, the archaeologist and former assassin Nico Robin, the cyborg shipwright Franky, the skeletal musician Brook, and the fishman helmsman Jimbei, and they also acquire a new ship named Thousand Sunny.
Synopsis – Tatsumi Oga is a first-year student in Ishiyama High School, a school for delinquents, where he is called the “strongest juvenile delinquent”. One day while sleeping next to a river, Tatsumi sees a man floating down it. Tatsumi pulls him to shore and the man splits in half, revealing a baby boy. This boy, Beelzebub, is the son of the demon king, and Tatsumi, along with Beelzebub’s demon maid Hilda, has been chosen as the one to raise him.

Synopsis – The story follows Takeo Gōda, a tall and muscular student who doesn’t have much luck with women, as every girl he likes ends up falling for his best friend, Makoto Sunakawa, who is charming and good-looking. This all changes when he saves Rinko Yamato, a petite shy girl who, above all other expectations, falls in love with Takeo, beginning a unique love story.

Synopsis – Lucy’s parents had a very hard time picking a single name for her when she was born. Due to their indecisiveness, they decided to give her over a dozen different names, and it was legally approved by a civil servant no less. At an adult age Lucy manages to land a job at the same public service office that registered her birth name, but only to seek revenge against the person who legalized her ridiculously long name. Being a civil servant is not an easy job due to dealing with many angry citizens, facing different challenges, and having to put up with wacky co-workers each day. However, Lucy is determined to do whatever it will take to get her revenge.
11. The Devil is a Part-Timer! (Hataraku Maou-sama!)
Synopsis – In another dimension, the Devil King Sadao is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by Hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As “conquering the world” are the only skills the Devil King possesses – and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation – he must work as a freeter to pay for his living expenses.

Synopsis – The lives of a group of students who attend the boys-only Sanada North High School and their acquaintances. Generally centered around three friends; Tadakuni, Yoshitake, and Hidenori; they are surrounded by odd classmates, peculiar family members, and many other unique individuals.
9. Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto (Sakamoto desu ga?)
Synopsis – The story is centered around the incredibly cool and popular Sakamoto: a flawless genius who is well liked by girls in his class. Despite the strange situations he may be in, normally consisting of pranks set up by the envious male population of the school, Sakamoto always manages to emerge in absolute perfection and as a result, makes himself seem even cooler.
8. Ouran High School Host Club
Haruhi is a poor tomboyish student at a school for the ultra-wealthy, able to attend because of a scholarship, and unable to even afford a uniform. One day, she stumbles across the decidedly peculiar but very popular Ouran Host Club. She tries to leave, but accidentally breaks a vase, and unable to pay for it, she’s told that she’ll have to stay and do odd jobs. That is until they decide she would be more valuable as a club member. Not realizing she’s female due to her appearance, they fix her up and give her a male uniform. She’s an instant hit, so they decide to have her keep up the charade even after they find out the truth. Haruhi, being average almost to a fault, doesn’t know what to make of the unconventional activities of the Host Club (or of the even more unconventional members), but having little choice, she plays along. Before long, real bonds are formed, friends made, and Haruhi finds herself accepted in a way she could never have been otherwise in this affluent school.

Synopsis – Soma Yukihira is a son of a restaurant owner. He’s talented at cooking and can make new dishes, mostly weird and epic combinations (squid and peanut butter) but this wide imagination of his also led him to create wonderful and unique foods. However, two to three years from now, the restaurant is on the verge of closing since his father will be working together with his friend. Before the time comes, Soma began studying in Engetsu Teahouse Culinary Academy, Japan’s top culinary academy. For him to continue their restaurant business, he must learn and improve his cooking skills in this prestigious academy.
5. GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka
Synopsis – Onizuka Eikichi is an ex-bike gang leader who has but one goal, to become the greatest teacher. While doing his teaching internship as part of his studies to become a qualified teacher, he ends up in a delinquent class and learns of the possibility and necessity of the power and respect gained from one’s students. Due to a mishap, after graduating, he gets a job at a prestigious private school to handle their ‘problem class’ that made the past few teachers quit. He must now handle a different kind of trouble when the trouble-makers include some of the smartest kids in Japan who prefer a more “intellectual approach” to torturing their teacher. Onizuka must slowly win his students over and deal with their distrust and hatred towards teachers and adults while handling the distrust of his fellow teachers who feel him unworthy of being a teacher.

Synopsis – On an unnamed Earth-like super-continent planet, strange monsters and supervillains have been mysteriously appearing and causing disasters. To combat them, the world’s superheroes have risen to fight them. Each of the Hero Association’s superheroes are ranked from S-Class which is the strongest to C-Class which is the weakest. Saitama is one such hero, hailing from the metropolis of Z-City. He has trained himself and grown strong to the point that he can effortlessly defeat any opponent with a single punch. However, Saitama became a hero for the fun of the experience, and he has lately become bored with his superhuman power and frustrated at the complete lack of strong opponents that can challenge him.
2. Nichijou – My Ordinary Life
Synopsis – Nichijou follows the everyday lives of various people in the town of Tokisadame, mainly focusing on the energetic Yūko Aioi, the bright and cheerful Mio Naganohara, the quiet and deadpan Mai Minakami, the anxious robot Nano Shinonome, her eight-year-old creator the Professor, and a talking cat named Mr. Sakamoto, along with an ensemble cast of characters. Random and/or outlandish events regularly occur throughout the series, mainly through the mundane situations each character undergoes.
Synopsis – Twenty years ago, Edo-period Japan suffered a great cultural shock—the aliens called Amanto invaded the Earth, overpowered the nation’s government, and outlawed the carrying of swords by the once proud samurai. Moreover, the aliens took the people’s jobs and are currently running Japan as a sweatshop using the natives as laborers. In this strange new era are Gintoki Sakata, an eccentric samurai whose personal trademarks are his naturally permed silver hair, his love of anything sweet, and his addiction to Shonen Jump; Shinpachi Shimura, the teenaged heir of the Kakido-Ryu style; and Kagura, an incredibly strong alien girl from the powerful Yato clan. The trio are self-employed in an odd jobs shop called Yoruzuya Gin-chan, which offers to do almost anything for a price, from finding lost kittens to saving the world. Unfortunately, the jobs rarely go as planned, or pay enough to cover the pain and suffering the employees encounter—never mind their rent.
