Top 10 Sad Yet Beautiful Anime Ending [Best Recommendations] (SPOILER ALERT)

10.Future Diary

This is exciting at the beginning with all the mythical and super diaries. But the Yandere nature of Yuno is scary at first…but one gets used to her madness. The end was sad and depressing just like how it leaves yukki the God and nothing to do…..Absolutely nothing except for watching his diary for Yuno actions in another parallel world. It shows/tells us how Fluke humanity is or creation is(Of course it’s just an anime, but then it is sad and depressing).

9.Angel Beats

This anime made me smile and tear up throughout the twelve episodes. Another must watch. This anime is filled with music from the famous Lisa (LiSA ), beautiful animations and range from genres such as action to romance to slice of life. Although it is not the ending that made me sad, it is Hinata and Yui, that made me completely and utterly sad! I recommend this anime to anyone who wants to feel something!

It’s about a classroom that is cursed and students in that class constantly die in tragic ways until they can find the student that was already dead before the school year started. At the ending of it the protagonist finds out it was his mother figure

7. Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!

This anime is about a university student, Yuuta, who takes his sister’s 3 daughters, Sora, Miu and Hina, into his care, due to the plane that his sister and her husband ride into was missing. Nonetheless, they met a lot of misfortunes and challenges, as Yuuta need to balance his life as a student and a ‘father’ of 3. The series itself is not that sad, but the OVA will make you burst into tears.

This is a fairly recent anime so I hope I didn’t spoil it for you.
This anime has one of the most sad endings ever. The entire world ends. Literally, and there is not a single animal left alive. Basically, there’s this personification of the Earth called the Key, and there is a group of immortal beings who seek to destroy the world by influencing the Key to initiate the self-destruct command so they can die and be at peace, and a group who wish to kill the Key to prevent the above from happening. The main character has friends in both segments, and tries to protect the Key. In the end, the friends in the ‘kill the Key’ side betray their side and get killed trying to protect the Key, the friends in the ‘use the Key’ side gets possessed and uses the Key against her will, and since the main character can’t bear to kill the Key she unwillingly gives the self-destruct command, and the world ends. Literally.
Extremely sad.

Clannad ~After Story~ episode 9 of Clannad is where you will realize what you have signed up for. It’s the best romance IMO and it’s filled with light-hearted comedy. The music plays a very important role and Clannad has one of the best OSTs.

4.Plastic Memories

This anime is about the Tsukasa, who works at a company which retrieves android robots that are about to meet their expiration date, if not, the robots will become hostile. He then falls in love with his working partner, Isla, which also an android robot, and that she also has her own expiration date.

3.Your Lie in April

This anime, had a massive impact on me when the end credits started to roll on the last episode When the main lead female character die while the hero was performing on stage and the last letter. It is a beautiful anime, with beautiful music, art and characters. It did not make me cry, but heck, it made me depressed.

2.A Silent Voice (Koe No Katachi)

A Silent Voice has become my favorite anime movie of all time. When I first searched for this show and watched it, I wanted to beat the living crap out of Ishida for bullying Nishimiya who was already insecure about being deaf. As a result, karma falls upon him and his group of friends leaves him to be alone by himself. He then grows up with no friends and becomes a full-blown introvert. He realizes what he’s done and is very sorry but because of his friend’s act of benevolent betrayal, doesn’t want to trust people anymore. It hurts for him to stay alone but he doesn’t want to be hurt by anyone else at the same time. He later meets Nishimiya after several years of the bullying incidents by pure coincidence. Here’s where I’ll begin to shorten it. Nishimiya attempts suicide. Ishida saves her life but nearly at the cost of his own as he pulls her back up from the ledge she jumped off of but instead falls down. In the end, Ishida meets a new group of people and they all become friends but this is the sad part. Throughout the story, X’s are placed onto people’s faces from Ishida’s point of view which represent Ishida’s loneliness and lack of communication with the outside world. They then come off and Ishida finally lifts his head to an astounding amount of people. He can’t hold back his tears from the sight. His trust, happy and once open, extroverted nature are all restored.

1. Code Geass

Having experienced a very treacherous and tragic past, a character in this anime has a vision. A vision to begin a great revolution, greater than any single person to fathom. Fortunately he gains the means to lay a strong foundation to his goal. With every passing moment he acquires trust and becomes powerful. He gains world recognition and equivalent criticism as well. In the end those who trusted him to turn against him and the person whom he hated the most turns out to be his best ally. But this ally dies on his arms too. Feel tragic yet? Wait there is much more to come. The person he loves the most begins to resent him and stands against him.
