Synopsis – Taro Sado is a high school student who lives his day to day life with a big secret—he’s a masochist! Encouraged by his cross-dressing best friend Tatsukichi Hayama, Taro asks the Second Voluntary Club for help with his problem and ends up joining the club after they vow to “fix” him. However, it turns out that all of the members of the club have some serious issues. The club leader Mio Isurugi is a self-designated god who is afraid of cats, Arashiko Yuuno has a severe fear of men, and the club advisor Michiru Onigawara is a sadist who enjoys making people cosplay. Together with other wacky characters they all learn about the importance of acceptance and kindness.

Similarity – Both are about sexual themes and comedy genre. Both deal with serious themes at times.
Both are beautifully animated. Both have vivid, memorable characters.
They represent a similar point in my opinion.

9. Yamada’s First Time: B Gata H Kei

Yamada's First Time B Gata H KeiSynopsis – Yamada, first name withheld, is a 15-year-old girl who has just entered Takizawa High School. Easily considered exceptionally beautiful, she has only one problem with her own body, she thinks her vagina looks weird and is very self-conscious about it. Upon entering high school, her dream was to have casual sex with 100 men but therein lies the problem, she believes an experienced partner will tease her about the way her vagina looks or simply the fact that she’s a virgin. She stumbles upon the solution in the form of Kosuda Takashi, a fellow virgin, whom she believes will help ease the transition to more experienced partners. There’s only one small problem, Yamada doesn’t know anything about sex or the ancient art of seduction, meaning her quest to conquer Kosuda will be a difficult one.

Similarity – Although B Gata relies more on romance and “more casual” way to approach sex and things related to it, both are still very enjoyable to watch because of their sexual nature. Shimoneta is just more radical when it comes to sexual jokes.

8. Aho Girl

Aho GirlSynopsis- Yoshiko Hanabatake is an idiot beyond all belief. Somehow managing to consistently score zeroes on all of her tests and consumed by an absurd obsession with bananas, her senseless acts have caused even her own mother to lose all hope. Only one person is up to the task of keeping her insanity in check: childhood friend Akuru “A-kun” Akutsu. Unfortunately, no matter how many times he attempts to knock some sense into her, the girl bounces right back to her usual shenanigans, even dragging in some other eccentrics along for the ride.

Similarity – Random, crude dirty jokes. Though this is the essence of shimoneta, here it’s just because the girl’s an idiot. It’s the same kind of humor for both. However, Shimoneta takes it a few steps forward and raises the dirty sense of humor bar.

7. Prison School

Prison SchoolSynopsis – At the start of the first semester under this new decree, a mere five boys have been accepted, effectively splitting the student body into a ratio of two hundred girls to one boy. Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre, and Jo are quickly cast away without having a chance to make any kind of a first impression. Unable to communicate with their fellow female students, the eager boys set their sights on a far more dangerous task: peeping into the girls’ bath! It’s only after their plan is thoroughly decimated by the infamous Underground Student Council that the motley crew find their freedom abruptly taken from them, as they are thrown into the school’s prison with the sentence of an entire month as punishment.

Similarity – Both series have the same ecchi sense of humor, short in length of episodes, and If you loved Hana from Prison School you will definitely love Anna from Shimoneta. While Shimoneta focuses strongly on sexual oppression, Prison school deals with a vaguely similar issue but focuses strongly on the visual sexual aspect. The art is completely different. Shimoneta has a mainstream character art style, while Prison school has a fresh, more realistic character drawing style.

6. Comical Psychosomatic Medicine (Anime de Wakaru Shinryounaika)

Comical Psychosomatic Medicine (Anime de Wakaru Shinryounaika)Synopsis – The psychologist Ryou and his cheerful nurse Asuna explain many aspects of mental illness to the reader. They cover topics such as the validity, prevalence, and origins of mental disorders, in addition to addressing specific disorders. The information is imparted in a cheerful and comic manner, with various jokes, puns, and pop culture references.

Similarity – Both anime include dirty jokes (made by female characters) and a male straight-man character to tsukkomi every time. They are both pretty funny in their own way. Although completely different stories, both employ constant rapid-fire dirty jokes.

5. Seitokai Yakuindomo

Seitokai YakuindomoSynopsis – Takatoshi is a new student in a recently gender-integrated high school, and is asked to join the student council as the vice president. Thus begins his days as the only normal boy among 3 female student council officers. Surrounded by these colorful characters, the new vice president must now work through a nonstop assault of sexual humor and insanity.

Similarity – Naughty by nature! The sexual innuendo combo! Comedy wise, they’re pretty much identical, and can be extremely hilarious in a determinedly stupid way and has an infectious lunacy about them. Some subtle social commentary here but the comedy is the star thanks to clever word play and punchlines that bank on humorous misunderstandings, which in turn, actually make the gags funny.

4. Flowers of Evil (Aku no Hana)

Flowers of Evil (Aku no Hana)Synopsis – Takao worships the class beauty, Nanako, from afar. When he is alone in the classroom one day after school, he notices her bag of gym clothes on the floor. He can’t resist picking it up. He plans to return it, but the next day, all the girls are commiserating with Nanako that some pervert has stolen her gym clothes. Worse than that, their classmate Sawa quietly lets him know that she saw him take the clothes and will tell Nanako if he doesn’t make a contract with her to do whatever she asks of him. And so their strange, tense relationship begins.

Similarity – Both protagonists are influenced by girl. Both of them are in love with other girl, and in order not to lose her trust, are required to comply the orders of the first girl. These are both ecchi series that can offer something fun outside of gratuitous fan-service, and they both are absolutely ridiculous.

3. Gonna be the Twintail!! (Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu)

Gonna be the Twintail!! (Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu)Synopsis – Twintails: the glory of all mankind—or at least that is what first-year high school student Souji Mitsuka believes. At school, Souji spends most of his time daydreaming and rating girls’ twintails, even going as far as creating a club dedicated to the hairstyle. His obsession does not go unnoticed, however; when monsters from outer space attack Earth and claim the world’s twintails for themselves, a strange woman named Twoearle enlists Souji to fight back using twintails of his own. By transforming into the twin-tailed warrior Tail Red, Souji combats the vicious alien organization known as Ultimegil, whose main goal is to colonize Earth and steal everyone’s spiritual energy, or “attribute power.”

Similarity – A lot of perverted humor! Really similar setup with the male protagonist mostly getting pushed around by the female characters after being forced into joining their organization. Very similar comedy focus that relies heavily on absurdism.

2. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Panty &amp Stocking with GarterbeltSynopsis – The “Anarchy Sisters,” Panty and Stocking, have been kicked out of Heaven for, to put it mildly, misbehaving. Led by a priest named Garterbelt, these angels must buy their way back by exterminating ghosts in Daten City. But this task requires unconventional weapons for these unorthodox angels—they transform their lingerie into weapons to dispatch the spirits. Unfortunately, neither of them take their duties seriously, as they rather spend their time in pursuit of other “hobbies”: Panty prefers to sleep with anything that walks, and Stocking favors stuffing her face with sweets than hunting ghosts.

Similarity – They both feature alot of dirty, explicit humor and jokes. Shimoneta, however, takes place in an alternate Japan where obscene stuff (including suggestive pictures of women and swearing) is banned, and after a turn of events the characters try to evade the strict law of the anime’s setting. Whereas in Panty & Stocking you got a parody of American cartoons where characters swear in every episode and a lot of WTF stuff happens. Those two animes would accept as mindless fun if you’re into explicitness.

1. Love and Lies (Koi to Uso)

Love and Lies (Koi to Uso)Synopsis – In a futuristic society, Japan has implemented a complex system referred to as “The Red Threads of Science” to encourage successful marriages and combat increasingly low birthrates. Based on a compatibility calculation, young people at the age of 16 are assigned marriage partners by the government, with severe repercussions awaiting those who disobey the arrangement. However, spurred by his infatuation for his classmate and long-time crush, Misaki Takasaki, Yukari defies the system and confesses his love. After some initial reluctance, Misaki reciprocates his feelings in a moment of passion. Unfortunately, before the two can further their relationship, Yukari receives his marriage notice. He is then thrown into a confusing web of love and lies when his less-than-thrilled assigned partner, Ririna Sanada, becomes fascinated with his illicit romance.

Similarity – Both anime tackle Japan’s low birth rate crisis.
In Koi to Uso, the government implements a law that solves this issue: Arranged marriages between two compatible individuals.
In Shimoneta, there is more of a parody of this problem. The government bans all romantic/dirty activities to raise the moral of the citizens.
