1. Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls

10. Maburaho

MaburahoSynopsis – His name is Kazuki Shikimori, 17 years old. He attends Aoi Academy, a school for elite magicians. Each magician has a set limit of spells, and performing more spells than the limit allows will cause the user to turn into dust. In this case, the number of magic Kazuki can use is far below the average in his school. Then one day, all of a sudden, three girls: Yuuna Miyama, Kuriko Kazetsubaki and Rin Kamishiro, appear before him. But of all the things that they are after, it is his genes. And for Kazuki, the girls’ appearances may also spell his doom, as he soon realizes that his magic count is decreasing ever steadily due to the fact that he can’t resist using magic to help them.

Similarity – The core of both stories is pretty similar: a bunch of girls hitting on the same guy… lots of fanservice… Cool yet simple action scenes… a world of mythical magic. Though Rosario + Vampire has some more Gothic elements to it. I highly recommend watching it if you liked one or the other! 😉

9. Is This a Zombie? (Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?)

Kore wa Zombie Desu kaSynopsis – Not every zombie is the monstrous, brain-eating type. One night while walking home from the convenience store, regular high school boy Ayumu Aikawa is killed by a serial killer, and is just as suddenly brought back to life by a necromancer named Eucliwood Hellscythe. One small caveat: he’s now a zombie. Things get even weirder for him when he accidentally steals a magical girl’s uniform, and thus her powers! Haruna, the ex-magical girl, orders him to fight evil creatures known as Megalo in her place until they can figure out a way to get her powers back to her. It seems that life is just going to get stranger and stranger for poor Ayumu from here on out in Kore wa Zombie desu ka?.

Similarity – Both ecchi series about paranormal misadventures. Both series involves a Vampire Girl (Moka / Seraphim), a childish little girl (Yukari / Haruna), an emotionless girl (Mizore / Yuu) and a busty girl obsessed with the main character (Kurumu / Yuki). Both main characters has monster characteristics (Tsukune can transform into a Ghoul, Ayumu is a Zombie)

8. Actually, I am… (Jitsu wa Watashi wa)

Jitsuwata, The Truth Is I Am... (Jitsu wa Watashi wa)Jitsuwata, The Truth Is I Am... (Jitsu wa Watashi wa)Synopsis – One day after school, Asahi Kuromine stumbles upon the truth that Youko Shiragami, the girl he has a crush on, is actually a vampire. According to her father’s rules, Youko must now quit school in order to keep her family safe. However, Asahi does not want her to go and promises that he will keep her true nature secret. Unfortunately, this turns out to be easier said than done, as Asahi is a man who is easy to read and is unable to keep any secrets to himself. And this is the only the beginning of his troubles—more supernatural beings enter his life, and he is forced to protect all of their identities or face the consequences

Similarity – Rosario to Vampire and Jitsu wa Watashi wa are series of romantic comedy where the protagonist discovers a vampire girl, becoming its first friend. Supernatural harem surrounded by monster girls. Although the main character only pursues one girl, he is still chased by others. Like Rosario + Vampire, Jitsu wa Watashi wa both have a vampire girl as the main female lead that is the pursued by the normal and useless yet “charming” main character.

7. Sekirei

SekireiSynopsis – Struggling yet brilliant teenager Minato Sahashi has failed his college entrance exams for the second time, resulting in him being regarded as worthless by those around him. However, the course of his seemingly bleak future is altered dramatically when a beautiful, supernatural woman falls from the sky and into his life. That woman, Musubi, is a unique being known as a “Sekirei,” a humanoid extraterrestrial with extraordinary abilities. These aliens are known for kissing humans carrying the Ashikabi gene in order to awaken additional latent powers deep within. Recognizing the potential within the seemingly insignificant youth, Musubi kisses the bewildered Minato, initiating a bond between the two of them. This drags him into the high-stakes world of the Sekirei, where he and his new partner must compete against others in a battle for survival called the “Sekirei Plan.”

Similarity – Both anime have a similar storyline, it’s about a guy who one day comes in contact with the supernatural and ends up falling in love with one of the other characters he meets and then he ends up making several women fall in love with. Both anime are romance-comedy and I highly recommend both.

6. To LOVE Ru

To LOVE RuSynopsis – Timid 16-year-old Rito Yuuki has yet to profess his love to Haruna Sairenji—a classmate and object of his infatuation since junior high. Sadly, his situation becomes even more challenging when one night, a mysterious, stark-naked girl crash-lands right on top of a bathing Rito. To LOVE-Ru depicts Rito’s daily struggles with the bizarre chaos that begins upon the arrival of Lala. With an evergrowing legion of swooning beauties that continuously foil his attempted confessions to Haruna, To LOVE-Ru is a romantic comedy full of slapstick humor, sexy girls, and outlandishly lewd moments that defy the laws of physics.

Similarity – You like stories that started from a “fated encounter” one day? Then look no further than this two harem, comedy, romance, and school setting centered series. The male protagonist of both series has this kind of encounter that changed their life forever. The main difference though is the scenario, one is that of a supernatural encounter and the other is an extraterrestrial-life encounter.

5. My Bride is a Mermaid (Seto no Hanayome)

My Bride is a Mermaid (Seto no Hanayome)Synopsis – Michishio Nagasumi’s life couldn’t be any more normal. In an odd twist of events, during his summer vacation he ends up almost drowning in the sea. Luckily, the cute mermaid Seto Sun appears to save him. However, Sun is from a yakuza mermaid family and according to their law, if a human is to catch sight of a mermaid, either he or the mermaid must die. The only other way is for Nagasumi to be taken in as a family member, marrying Sun. In attempts to save both of their lives, Nagasumi asks for Sun’s hand in marriage. Nagasumi’s summer vacation reaped more than what he would expect, as he must now protect Sun from others finding her secret out.

Similarity – Both anime have a human protagonist that stumbles upon the secret world of monsters and mythical beings. Both protagonists are bound to a female companion through a close encounter and is constantly pursued by other girls his age. Both anime revolve around school life and trying to keep a secret, R + V that Tsukune is a human and in SnH that Sun is a mermaid. Where they are different is if you take away the ecchi of R + V and replace it with the parody that SnH has. R + V

4. Vampire Knight

Vampire KnightSynopsis – Cross Academy is an elite boarding school with two separate, isolated classes: the Day Class and the Night Class. On the surface, Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu are prefects of the academy, and attempt to keep order between the students as classes rotate in the evenings. As the Night Class is full of utterly gorgeous elites, this can sometimes prove to be a bit difficult. It is completely necessary, however, as those “elites” are actually vampires. Yuuki and Zero act as guardians, protecting the secrets of the Night Class and the safety of their ignorant morning counterparts.

Similarity – The first thing us they both have to do with vampires! Nt only that, but they also have to do with vampires in school. In each TV series… they meet up with at least one normal human being or a vampire. And the vampire try to suck the yumas blood all the time! Duh, its a vampire. But most of the storyline is different, both have comedy and romance, but Rosario + vampire is more romance than drama.

3. Karin

karinSynopsis – Vampires—supernatural beings that feed on the life essence of the unsuspecting at night—have been around for centuries. However, high schooler Karin Maaka is unusual, even among her own kind. Unlike her vampire family, ever since she was a child, Karin has suffered from polycythemia: a rare disorder which causes her to periodically produce excessive amounts of blood. And the more blood she produces, the more anemic and lightheaded she gets, ultimately leading to frequent nosebleeds. That is, until Karin’s newly transferred classmate, Kenta Usui, finds her behavior suspicious. And to make matters even more complicated, Karin feels her blood reacting unusually to Kenta’s presence.

Similarity – Both have Vampire female leads, and both female leads are not what they appear to be at first. They are also both rather humorous and set around schools. R+V is more of a harem compared with Karin being more about Karin’s journey through her oddity and finding love and acceptance.

2. The Familiar of Zero (Zero no Tsukaima)

Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero)Synopsis – When the first year students are required to perform a summoning ritual, Louise’s summoning results in a catastrophic explosion! Everyone deems this to be yet another failure, but when the smoke clears, a boy named Saito Hiraga appears. Now Louise’s familiar, Saito is treated as a slave, forced to clean her clothes and eat off the ground. But when an unfamiliar brand is found etched on Saito’s hand from the summoning ritual, it is believed to be the mark of a powerful familiar named Gandalfr. Wild, adventurous, and explosive, Zero no Tsukaima follows Saito as he comes to terms with his new life and as Louise proves that there is more to her than her nickname suggests.

Similarity – Both animes feature charming female leads, magic, and school life. Zero, sadly, has a low level of fanservice compared to Rosario, but a better story. However, Saito is way cooler than the loser Tsukune so that is an advantage that Zero has over Rosario. Plus, in both animes, the main girl has pink hair, and the main boys in both are similar. They both have Rie Kugimiya too!

1. Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls (Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou)

Monster Musume no Iru NichijouSynopsis – Three years ago, the world learned that harpies, centaurs, catgirls, and all manners of fabulous creatures are not merely fiction; they are flesh and blood – not to mention scale, feather, horn, and fang. Thanks to the “Cultural Exchange Between Species Act,” these once-mythical creatures have assimilated into society, or at least, they’re trying. When a hapless human teenager named Kurusu Kimihito is inducted as a “volunteer” into the government exchange program, his world is turned upside down. A snake-like lamia named Miia comes to live with him, and it is Kurusu’s job to take care of her and make sure she integrates into his everyday life.

Similarity – When I watched the first Episode of MonMusu, I couldn’t help but to remember my old friend Rosario to Vampire. That may be cause of the high amount of Ecchi with many Monster Girl or the nice, kinda shy, all in all average Protagonist in both shows. Ecchi with Monster Girl’s is the main plot in the shows and that would be enough to enjoy the shows, if that is enough to make you happy. Rosario Vampire is more serious and “school life” while Monster Musume is entirely focused around ecchi and comedy.
