10. Darling in the FranXX

darling in the franxx
Synopsis – In the distant future the land is ruined and humanity establishes the mobile fort city Plantation. Pilots produced inside Plantation live in Mistilteinn, also know as the “birdcage.” Children live there knowing nothing of the outside world or the freedom of the sky. Their lives consist of battling to carry out missions. Their enemies are mysterious giant lifeforms known as Kyōryū, and the children pilot robots called Franxx to face off against them. For the children, riding the Franxx proves their existence. A boy named Hiro is called Code:016, and he was once known as a prodigy. However, he has fallen behind, and his existence seems unnecessary. Not piloting a Franxx is the same as ceasing to exist. One day, a mysterious girl known as “Zero Two” appears before him. Two horns grow out of her head.

Similarity – Both have sci-fi and mecha’s (usually Selesia Rui for Re:Creators)
Both have beautiful and yet similar soundtracks (But both done by different people)
Both have similar characters
Both have incredible fight scenes
And they both have interesting plot wise

9. Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)Synopsis – Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki are regular middle school girls with regular lives, but all that changes when they encounter Kyuubey, a cat-like magical familiar, and Homura Akemi, the new transfer student. Kyuubey offers them a proposition: he will grant any one of their wishes and in exchange, they will each become a magical girl, gaining enough power to fulfill their dreams. However, Homura Akemi, a magical girl herself, urges them not to accept the offer, stating that everything is not what it seems.

Similarity – The reality for some might not be holding all the truth, that is the premise of both manga. Either Madoka or re:creators show to the public a different kind of history involving mahou shoujo. The only thing important to mention is that in re: creators of the Mahou shoujo plot is well developed but it still is only a small portion of the main theme presented.

8. Rokka no Yuusha (Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers)

Rokka no Yuusha (Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers)Synopsis – When the Majin awoke from the depths of darkness, the deity of fate chose six heroes and bequeathed them with the power to save the world. Adlet, a boy who proclaims himself the strongest on Earth, was selected among the Rokka no Yūsha (Braves of the Six Flowers), and he goes to the rendezvous point — but seven have gathered there. The heroes suspect that someone among the seven is the enemy, and the initial suspicion falls on Adlet.

Similarity – A group of strong characters from different places gathered in one place. They’re not familiar with each other, but they have the same goal (to defeat the Demon god in Rokka no Yuusha/to find the creators in Re:Creators). But, instead of achieving their goal, they just fight each other to prove that they’re on the right side.

7. Drifters

Drifters

Synopsis – Shimazu Toyohisa is the real-life samurai who fought in the pivotal Battle of Sekigahara. In his dying moments, Shimazu is transported to a world of magic with other famous warriors throughout history. These warriors are forced to fight each other in an endless battle.

Similarity – Both series are about… characters from different universes united in a world, where they fight each other. The only difference is that one has a darker theme (…right?), gory and includes real people that once existed on this planet such as Nobunaga Oda and Joan of Arc, the other has fictional characters from TV series, mangas and games.

6. Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World

Re Zero

Synopsis – Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favor, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Similarity – Re:Zero plunges its protagonist into a fantasy world of wonder and suffering, with a unique setting and vibrant world. Re:Creators turns this idea inside out by pulling characters from fictional worlds into our familiar universe, and they all have their own agendas – whether for peace, lies, honor, or destruction.

5. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri

Gate Jieitai Kanochi nite Kaku TatakaeriSynopsis – A gate appears in Tokyo’s Ginza district sometime in the 21st century. From the gate pours out monsters, knights from middle-age Europe, and other fantasy-like beings, and they kill many of the citizens of Tokyo. This event is known as the Ginza Incident. The government sends a small group of soldiers from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to the alternate world beyond the gate. Led by otaku soldier Yōji, they find that the villages in the world are being attacked by a dragon. An elf girl who is a survivor of the dragon’s rampage joins the group in their travels across the dangerous new world.

Similarity – Both have the same plot where powerful beings from another dimension come to another world where they have established themselves as the superior ones, however, in Gate it involves humans coming in from a portal that connects to their world to the world of fantasy, in Re:Creators in the other hand it was a complete reversal, where it involves, the works of man coming to life and running amok into the real world.

4. Fate/Zero

Fate Zero
Synopsis – With the promise of granting any wish, the omnipotent Holy Grail triggered three wars in the past, each too cruel and fierce to leave a victor. In spite of that, the wealthy Einzbern family is confident that the Fourth Holy Grail War will be different; namely, with a vessel of the Holy Grail now in their grasp. Solely for this reason, the much hated “Magus Killer” Kiritsugu Emiya is hired by the Einzberns, with marriage to their only daughter Irisviel as a binding contract.

Kiritsugu now stands at the center of a cutthroat game of survival, facing off against six other participants, each armed with an ancient familiar, and fueled by unique desires and ideals. Accompanied by his own familiar, Saber, the notorious mercenary soon finds his greatest opponent in Kirei Kotomine, a priest who seeks salvation from the emptiness within himself in pursuit of Kiritsugu.

Similarity – Heroes from legend are brought into modern day and meet up. Fate is a large series with many heroes looking back at their legends, Zero is the better part to be animated so far. Re Creators takes some fictional characters it made up and has them meet their creators and meet other genres.

3. Infini-T Force

Infini T Force
Synopsis – Seventeen-year-old Emi Kaido hasn’t seen her father in ten years. She lives alone and feels increasingly disaffected, challenging the world to kill her and feeling empty when her daredevil behavior doesn’t “pay off”. All of that is about to change when she meets four heroes from alternate Earths. When their worlds were eliminated by an evil man known only as “Z”, they instead came to Emi’s, and together they determine to stop the destruction.

Similarity – Both animes feature heroes and villains from different worlds coming together, with the focal character of the anime being a struggling artist. There are even similar characters to boot, such as the mysterious villain with a connection to the focal character or the wildcard trickster. The only difference is that Re:Creators uses unique characters whereas Infini-T Force uses Tatsunoko characters.

2. Durarara!!

DurararaSynopsis – Ryūgamine Mikado is a boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city. At the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi, he transfers to a school in Ikebukuro. Masaomi has warned him about people he doesn’t want to cross in the city: a champion fighter, an informant, and a mysterious gang called “Dollars.” Nervous from Masaomi’s stories, Mikado witnesses an urban legend on his first day in the city, the Headless Rider astride a black motorcycle. From then on, the existence of supernatural cases and a gang called the Yellow Scarves will rise to the surface, and Ikebukuro will be pushed to the breaking point.

Similarity – If you like Izaya you will like this show. Megane is very similar to Izaya, but eviler and with magic that involves manipulating people with her words. AKA so much worse for those against her. Like Izaya she loves all humans though. In this character comparison Alicetaria is Shizou, which fits but minus shipping. Great huge cast all bouncing off of each other trying to not destroy or destroy the city!

1. Shirobako

shirobako

Synopsis – A “shirobako” refers to the white box into which a finalized tape of a film is put, full of the effort of everyone who worked on it. Five girls have their eyes set on getting in a white box as they try to find success in the anime industry through writing, production, and voice acting.

Similarity – Basically the only anime close enough to give you what Re:CREATORS is doing. Both are great underrated gems (especially Re:CREATORS) which focus on the creation and impact of stories. Recommend both mostly to artists and writers (creators basically lol). You can think of Shirobako as a spiritual prequel to Re:CREATORS as Re:CREATORS explores in a fresh new way (with the bonus of really cool action scenes…which I know aren’t the focus..but an epic addition nonetheless..not to mention it’s META AF damn!)
Attention to detail is key as well. If you catch onto info quickly, you’ll have a blast

Credits – MAL, ANN
