10 Anime Like One Piece
7. Soul Eater
6. Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)
5. Dragon Ball
4. Hunter x Hunter
1. Fairy Tail
Synopsis – Trigun revolves around a man known as “Vash the Stampede” and two Bernardelli Insurance Society employees, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, who follow him around in order to minimize the damages inevitably caused by his appearance. Most of the damage attributed to Vash is actually caused by bounty hunters in pursuit of the sixty billion double dollar bounty on Vash’s head for the destruction of the city of July.
However, he cannot remember the incident due to retrograde amnesia, being able to recall only fragments of the destroyed city and memories of his childhood. Throughout his travels, Vash tries to save lives using non-lethal force. He is occasionally joined by a priest, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who, like Vash, is a superb gunfighter with a mysterious past. As the series progresses, more about Vash’s past and the history of human civilization on the planet Gunsmoke is revealed.
Similarity – Both shows deliver tragic events for the characters to face with their strong bonds of friendship to pull them through and the excessive use of the term “Nakama”. The main characters are both easygoing and funny but when the time comes they initiate super bad-assary.
Synopsis – The plot is focused on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who helps a teenager named Shinpachi Shimura save his sister Tae from a group of aliens who want to make her part of a brothel. Impressed with Gintoki, Shinpachi becomes his apprentice and works with him as a freelance odd-jobs man in order to pay the monthly rent on Gintoki’s combination home and office, as well as to know more about him. The two of them rescue a teenage alien girl named Kagura from a group of Yakuza who wanted to use her superhuman strength to kill people. Kagura joins Shinpachi and Gintoki to work as freelancers and the three become known as “Yorozuya”
Similarity – They both have similar storytelling methods. Both animes hardly take themselves seriously and crack joke after joke, but they have serious moments where the viewer can really connect to the characters. Both are on the masterpiece level and are very comedic and there is action in both animes.
Synopsis – Toriko is a Gourmet Hunter searching for the most precious foods in the world so he can create his full-course meal. A man with inhuman ability, he utilizes his incredible strength and knowledge of the animal kingdom to capture ferocious, evasive, and rare beasts to further his menu.
He is accompanied by the weak and timid chef Komatsu, who, inspired by Toriko’s ambition, travels with him to improve his culinary skills and to find rare ingredients. Toriko and his friends often fight against the Gourmet Corps, who seek to take control of the world’s entire food supply and are looking for the highly sought-after ingredient GOD, which the legendary Gourmet Hunter Acacia used to end the war that took place five-hundred years before the series began.
Similarity – Toriko and One Piece share a massive world which is build up brilliantly. Both feature a great cast of shounen characters that develop strongly throughout the series in a series of adventures and missions. Toriko has an own so-called group like One Piece has a Pirate Crew. Both of these anime have an Adventure’s and humor too.
7. Soul Eater
Synopsis – Soul Eater Evans, a Demon Scythe who only seems to care about what’s cool, aims to become a Death Scythe with the help of his straight-laced wielder, or meister, Maka Albarn. The contrasting duo work and study alongside the hot-headed Black☆Star and his caring weapon Tsubaki, as well as the Shinigami’s own son, Death the Kid, an obsessive-compulsive dual wielder of twin pistols Patty and Liz.
Soul Eater follows these students of Shibusen as they take on missions to collect souls and protect the city from the world’s threats while working together under the snickering sun to become sounder in mind, body, and soul.
Similarity – The same kind of quirky humor for both, the same kind of brilliantly simple yet very well done animation. Both have unique characters, which combine to make a cleverly-thought-out storyline which is told in a similar fashion. Both great watches
6. Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)
Synopsis – In a world where people with superpowers known as “Quirks” are the norm, Izuku Midoriya has dreams of one day becoming a Hero despite being bullied by his classmates for not having a Quirk. After being the only one to try and save his childhood bully Katsuki from a villain, the world’s greatest Hero, All Might, bestows upon him his own quirk “One For All”. The story follows Izuku’s entrance into U.A. High School, a school that cultivates the next generation of superheroes.
Similarity – Anime with characters who have supernatural abilities are among some of the best, and One Piece & My Hero Academia are both great about giving us characters with out of the box powers we would never expect! Each show is filled with intense battles of characters using these supernatural abilities, in a world where they’re told from the start is too big for them to make a difference. If you like one, you’re sure to like the other!
5. Dragon Ball Z
Synopsis – Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of the adult Goku who, along with his companions, defends the earth against an assortment of villains ranging from intergalactic space fighters and conquerors, unnaturally powerful androids and near indestructible magical creatures.
While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adulthood life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as other characters from Dragon Ball and more. The separation between the series is also significant as the latter series takes on a more dramatic and serious tone.
Similarity – Well, not only do the authors keep making the story more interesting as it goes along, they also keep adding seemingly impossible things into the plot. Also, both series have a goofy main character who always wants to protect his friends and family. Eiichiro Oda was inspired by the great work of the DB author. so I highly suggest watching dbz if you’re a one piece fan.
4. Hunter x Hunter
Synopsis – The journey begins with Gon taking a series of bizarre tests to become a Hunter, which includes navigating a deadly jungle, hunting other applicants, killing a wild boar, an extraordinarily long underground marathon, and making sushi. During the Hunter Exam, Gon meets and befriends three of the applicants, Kurapika, Killua, and Leorio.
The series’ first antagonist is also introduced as one of the applicants. Hisoka is a complex villain who uses playing cards as weapons and views Gon as an “unripe fruit” that he will take great pleasure in killing once he’s grown up enough to present a challenge. Before the end of the Hunter Exam, Killua faces his brother, Illumi, who makes him come home before he can even finish the Exam.
Similarity – Just as One Piece, Hunter x Hunter is a pretty long shounen anime, both series can be really funny at times ,you will never get bored and always want to see the next episode, both anime have some awesome fights and also the characters are very likable, if you enjoy one of this anime you will most probably like the other one too.
Synopsis – Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts. The early parts of the story focus mainly on the characters. As events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of these gods of death. Bleach then entered its final story arc, which chronicles a war between Soul Society and an army of Quincy known as the Wandenreich. lead by the creator of the Quincy, Yhwach, the Wandenreich devastated Soul Society and put the balance of the various worlds at risk by killing the Soul King.
Similarity – Both shows are about fighting, and the desire/need to become the strongest. The fight scenes are well done, and a bit drawn out in both shows.
There is also a fair amount of humor to both shows. The main characters in both shows are funny and likable. Also, in both shows, there are great comedy relief characters (kon and Usopp).
Synopsis – Twelve years before the start of the series, the Nine-Tails attacked Konohagakure destroying much of the village and taking many lives. The leader of the village, the Fourth Hokage sacrificed his life to seal the Nine-Tails into a newborn, Naruto Uzumaki. Orphaned by the attack, Naruto was shunned by the villagers, who out of fear and anger, viewed him as the Nine-Tails itself.
Though the Third Hokage outlawed speaking about anything related to the Nine-Tails, the children taking their cues from their parents inherited the same animosity towards Naruto. In his thirst to be acknowledged, Naruto vowed he would one day become the greatest Hokage the village had ever seen.
Similarity – Two people that have their own goals and dreams. The main characters for both shows are very similar. They are very clumsy, lazy, and funny, but when it comes down to protecting their friends from danger, they get serious. Both are filled with excitement, action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy.
1. Fairy Tail
Synopsis – Lucy Heartfilia, a traveling Mage, meets Natsu Dragneel, a Mage looking for his foster parent, a dragon named Igneel, with his best friend, Happy, a blue, talking and flying cat. Shortly after their meeting, Lucy is abducted by Bora of Prominence, who was posing as Salamander of Fairy Tail, to be sold as a slave. Natsu rescues her and reveals that he is the real Salamander of Fairy Tail and has the skills of a Dragon Slayer, a form of Lost Magic. He offers her membership into the guild, which she gladly accepts. They, along with the armored Mage Erza Scarlet, Ice-Make Mage Gray Fullbuster, and Happy, become a team performing various missions offered to the Fairy Tail Guild.
Similarity – Fairy Tail, just like One Piece, presents the power of friendship and the will to never give up. The characters in both series are similar, while both shows emphasize comedy scenes. The main difference is the world these heroes live in. One Piece takes place in a world of pirates and treasures, Fairy Tail in a world of magic and monsters. I’d say Fairy Tail is another version of One Piece.
