10. Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

Anime like Handa kun

Synopsis – For high school student Tanaka, the act of being listless is a way of life. Known for his inattentiveness and ability to fall asleep anywhere, Tanaka prays that each day will be as uneventful as the last, seeking to preserve his lazy lifestyle however he can by avoiding situations that require him to exert himself. Along with his dependable friend Oota who helps him with tasks he is unable to accomplish, the lethargic teenager constantly deals with events that prevent him from experiencing the quiet and peaceful days he longs for.

Similarity –Nisekoi is an anime that has the same kind of romantic comedy feel to it, but the main characters are completely different. I’m recommending this for those who like the whole normal people, rom-com, school setting. If you like the whole part where the main character has the *special trait* in Tanaka-kun, this would be his listlessness, then Nisekoi is not for you.

Tanaka-kun is about Tanaka, a boy who is lethargic, and according to him, “sleep takes up about 80% of my human needs.” So yeah. He dozes off in mid-conversation, and his friend, Ohta, ends up carrying him around everywhere. Tanka-kun is a rom-com, of sorts. It’s not a complete rom-com, because he is unaware of the feelings, and potential feelings around him. Well, that, and he doesn’t care. Tanaka doesn’t treat the girls like trash, and the story has it’s remarkable and funny moments. So yeah, chances are if you like Nisekoi, you’ll like this!

9. Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai

Synopsis – Kirino Kousaka embodies the ideal student with equally entrancing looks. Her grades are near perfect, and to cover her personal expenses, she works as a professional model alongside her best friend Ayase Aragaki, who abhors liars and all things otaku. But what Ayase doesn’t know is that Kirino harbors a deep, entrenched secret that will soon be brought to light.

At home one day, Kyousuke, Kirino’s perfectly average brother, stumbles upon an erotic game that belongs to none other than his seemingly flawless little sister. With her reputation at stake, Kirino places a gag order on her sibling while simultaneously introducing him to the world of eroge and anime. Through Kirino, Kyousuke encounters the gothic lolita Ruri Gokou and the bespectacled otaku Saori Makishima, thus jump-starting an entirely new lifestyle. But as he becomes more and more involved in his little sister’s secret life, it becomes that much harder to keep under wraps.

Similarity – the protagonists of their Anime are very similar both as physical appearance, both as a character; Oreimo and Nisekoi are both comic and a little harem but I find it even more comical Oreimo

8. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku

Anime Like Masamune-Kun no Revenge

Synopsis- Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku picks up immediately after the events of the first season, continuing the adventures of the Volunteer Service Club—the dispassionate Hachiman Hikigaya, the cheerful Yui Yuigahama, and the competitive Yukino Yukinoshita—as it dedicates itself to helping any student with issues that they may face.

With the rift among his own group widening, Hachiman begins to realize that his knack for quickly getting to the root of other people’s troubles is a double-edged sword: sometimes the best solution is not necessarily the most appropriate one.

Similarity – Both are essentially love comedies. In Oregairu, you have a love triangle; in Nisekoi, you have many female characters like the male lead. The only major difference between these two series is the character development, which Oregairu is much better at.

7. 3-gatsu no Lion

Anime like Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

Synopsis – Having reached professional status in middle school, Rei Kiriyama is one of the few elites in the world of shogi. Due to this, he faces an enormous amount of pressure, both from the shogi community and his adoptive family. Seeking independence from his tense home life, he moves into an apartment in Tokyo. As a 17-year-old living on his own, Rei tends to take poor care of himself, and his reclusive personality ostracizes him from his peers in school and at the shogi hall.

However, not long after his arrival in Tokyo, Rei meets Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto, a trio of sisters living with their grandfather who owns a traditional wagashi shop. Akari, the oldest of the three girls, is determined to combat Rei’s loneliness and poorly sustained lifestyle with motherly hospitality. The Kawamoto sisters, coping with past tragedies, also share with Rei a unique familial bond that he has lacked for most of his life. As he struggles to maintain himself physically and mentally through his shogi career, Rei must learn how to interact with others and understand his own complex emotions.

Similarity – 3-gatsu no Lion reminds me of Nisekoi in some shots. I know, it’s not a big similarity, but both are very original and enjoyable shows. In addition, Hinata and Onodera have the same voice actress.

6. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

Synopsis – Music accompanies the path of the human metronome, the prodigious pianist Kousei Arima. But after the passing of his mother, Saki Arima, Kousei falls into a downward spiral, rendering him unable to hear the sound of his own piano.

Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colorless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face the music again.

Based on the manga series of the same name, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso approaches the story of Kousei’s recovery as he discovers that music is more than playing each note perfectly, and a single melody can bring in the fresh spring air of April.

Similarity – If you love the relationship between Chitoge and Raku, and how they have their little stubborn but loving moments together, then watch Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.

They’re both really loving stories that you’ll enjoy. (Keep in mind that Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is full of feels and may break your heart)

5. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!

Synopsis –Everybody has had that stage in their life where they have thought themselves to be special, different from the masses of ordinary humans. They might go as far as seeing themselves capable of wielding mystical powers or maybe even believe themselves to have descended from a fantasy realm. This “disease” is known as “chuunibyou” and is often the source of some of the most embarrassing moments of a person’s life.

For Yuuta Togashi, the scars that his chuunibyou has left behind are still fresh. Having posed as the “Dark Flame Master” during his middle school years, he looks back at those times with extreme embarrassment, so much so that he decides to attend a high school far away where nobody will recognize him. Putting his dark history behind him, he longs to live a normal high school life.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t escaped his past yet: enter Rikka Takanashi, Yuuta’s new classmate and self-declared vessel of the “Wicked Eye.” As this eccentric young girl crashes into Yuuta’s life, his dream of an ordinary, chuunibyou-free life quickly crumbles away. In this hilarious and heartwarming story of a boy who just wants to leave his embarrassing memories behind, the delusions of old are far from a thing of the past.

Similarity – Chuunibyou is a cute story, you’ll find yourself shipping oddly paired couples pretty fast, just like in Nisekoi, one of the best anime shows I have seen.
The girls in both series have very similar personalities.
A similar love triangle occurs, but it is a bit more pronounced in Nisekoi, and the love triangle only becomes apparent in the sequel of Chuunibyou.

4. Zero no Tsukaima

Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero)

Synopsis – Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière is a self-absorbed mage in a world of wands, cloaks, and royalty. Although she studies at Tristain Academy, a prestigious school for magicians, she has a major problem: Louise is unable to cast magic properly, earning her the nickname of “Louise the Zero” from her classmates.

When the first year students are required to perform a summoning ritual, Louise’s summoning results in a catastrophic explosion! Everyone deems this to be yet another failure, but when the smoke clears, a boy named Saito Hiraga appears. Now Louise’s familiar, Saito is treated as a slave, forced to clean her clothes and eat off the ground. But when an unfamiliar brand is found etched on Saito’s hand from the summoning ritual, it is believed to be the mark of a powerful familiar named Gandalfr.

Similarity – The main boy protagonist is liked by many girls. It has funny moments. Somewhat similar plots.

3. Golden Time

Anime Like Masamune-Kun no Revenge

Synopsis – Due to a tragic accident, Banri Tada is struck with amnesia, dissolving the memories of his hometown and past. However, after befriending Mitsuo Yanagisawa, he decides to move on and begin a new life at law school in Tokyo. But just as he is beginning to adjust to his college life, the beautiful Kouko Kaga dramatically barges into Banri’s life, and their chance meeting marks the beginning of an unforgettable year.

After having a glimpse of college life, Banri learns that he is in a new place and a new world – a place where he can be reborn, to have new friends, fall in love, makes mistakes and grow. And as he begins to discover who he was, the path he has chosen leads him towards a blindingly bright life that he will never want to forget.

Similarity – Stories wrapped up in love polygons and a revisit of the past. Golden Time and Nisekoi formulate this trope into a story involving the main character in complex relationships. The main male protagonist differs in personalities but is kind at heart. On the other hand, the main female protagonist from both series has complex personalities and tends to be aggressive in certain circumstances.

Both series revolve around relationships although Nisekoi has more action while Golden Time has more realism with its more mature setting. Throughout both series, an important content involves the past of the main characters that directly influences on present events.

2. Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Kaichou wa Maid sama

Synopsis – Being the first female student council president isn’t easy, especially when your school just transitioned from an all-boys high school to a co-ed one. Aptly nicknamed “Demon President” by the boys for her strict disciplinary style, Misaki Ayuzawa is not afraid to use her mastery of Aikido techniques to cast judgment onto the hordes of misbehaving boys and defend the girls at Seika High School.

Yet even the perfect Ayuzawa has an embarrassing secret—she works part-time as a maid at a maid café to help her struggling family pay the bills. She has managed to keep her job hidden from her fellow students and maintained her flawless image as a stellar student until one day, Takumi Usui, the most popular boy in school, walks into the maid café. He could destroy her reputation with her secret… or he could twist the student council president around his little finger and use her secret as an opportunity to get closer to her.

Similarity – I make this recommendation because they are romantic comedies.
Both have a secret that they must keep.
There are a lot of changes of animation in both.
Finally features traps.

1. Toradora!

Anime Like Masamune-Kun no Revenge

Synopsis – Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a love for housework; but in contrast to his kind nature, he has an intimidating face that often gets him labeled as a delinquent. On the other hand is Taiga Aisaka, a small, doll-like student, who is anything but a cute and fragile girl. Equipped with a wooden katana and feisty personality, Taiga is known throughout the school as the “Palmtop Tiger.”

One day, an embarrassing mistake causes the two students to cross paths. Ryuuji discovers that Taiga actually has a sweet side: she has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who happens to be his best friend. But things only get crazier when Ryuuji reveals that he has a crush on Minori Kushieda—Taiga’s best friend!

Similarity –Romantic comedies – Nisekoi and Toradora define them with a main male protagonist trying to get the attention of a girl they have set their eyes on. Unfortunately, circumstances often get in their way. On the other hand, the main male protagonist gets into an unlikely alliance/relationship with another girl who has her own interests.

There is plenty of drama, comedy, and romance offered in both series. Perhaps the most prominent feature involves relationships the main male protagonist forms with others throughout the series.
