Synopsis – During the Hundred Year’s War between England and France in the Middle Ages, a powerful witch named Maria lives in a secret forest with her familiars. She hates the war around her, and will sometimes stir up trouble against the church that does nothing to stop it. Her interventions into the world, however, run against the plans of heaven, earning her the attention of the Archangel Michael.

Similarity – The two series involve a group of friends with amazing and diverse powers, they come together to fight a common adversary to protect their loved ones. Both series have amazing fighting scenes and comedic moments. Both share Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Shounen, drama, and Supernatural genre components.

 

9. Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)

Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)Synopsis – Mankind has developed superpowers known as “Quirks” with 80% of the population having some kind of superpower. These new abilities see the rise of both superheroes and villains. A prestigious school known as The Hero Academy trains superpowered hopefuls into the heroes the world needs.
Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he’s part the 20% without a Quirk. Unwilling to give up his dream, he plans to take the exam and be accepted into a high school for budding heroes. Through a series of serendipitous events, he catches the eye of the greatest hero, All Might, who agrees to train him.

Similarity – Both series have great narratives, good fights and charismatic characters, if you liked Nanatsu no Taizai, you will probably like My Hero Academy especially the second season. The character building in both are great but the most enjoyable part is how engaging the fantasy settings and sense of adventure is. They’re both just really fun to watch if you want great fleshed out action-filled plot.

 

8. Black Clover

Synopsis – Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. He only has one problem, he can’t use magic. Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Even though he can’t use magic, he plans to become the Wizard King.

Similarity – There are a few similarities with Asta and Meliodas, starting with which they are both demons and one of the most powerful characters in the storyline. Asta being Magic Knight and Meliodas being Holy Knight. Plus Both have a rivalry between the main character and his best friend. Asta<->Yuno / Meliodas<->Ban. The anime has similar worlds full of Magic and Fantasy.

 

7. Quanzhi Gaoshou (The King’s Avatar)

Ye Xiu’s early achievements on the new server immediately catch the attention of many players, as well as the big guilds, leaving them to wonder about the identity of this exceptional player. However, while he possesses ten years of experience and in-depth knowledge, starting afresh with neither sponsors nor a team in a game that has changed over the years presents numerous challenges. Along with talented new comrades, Ye Xiu once again dedicates himself to traverse the path to Glory’s summit!

Similarity – The main characters are overpowered, and often takes their time or doesn’t really go seriously for most opponents. The main difference is that Quanzhi Gaoshou is in a game, and Nanatsu no Taizai is not, but the action of both is very entertaining.

Yona, with her childhood friend and bodyguard Hak, must retreat to gather allies and reclaim her place as ruler of the kingdom.

5. Rokka no Yuusha (Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers)

Adlet, a boy who proclaims himself the strongest on Earth, was selected among the Rokka no Yūsha (Braves of the Six Flowers), and he goes to the rendezvous point — but seven have gathered there. The heroes suspect that someone among the seven is the enemy, and the initial suspicion falls on Adlet.

Similarity – Seven heroes chose and embark on an adventure to save the world. Both taking place in a fantasy setting. The main character in both series met the girl that changed his destiny. Splendid adventurous show with a very colourfull story, diversified characters and unstoppable beauty of its world.

 

4. Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis (Rage of Bahamut: Genesis)

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis (Rage of Bahamut: Genesis)Synopsis – Mistarcia is a magical world where humans, gods, and demons mingle together. In the past, the black-and-silver winged Bahamut has threatened to destroy the land, but humans, gods, and demons overcame their differences to fight together and seal its power. The key to that seal was split in two, one half was given to the gods and the other to demons so that they would never be united and Bahamut never released. Now, two thousand years later, the world is in an era of peace – until the day a woman steals the gods’ half of the key.

Similarity – – Both series are set in a similar middle-aged world where there are Knights, Demons, and Angels.
– In both is used magic and both have their kingdoms.
– The main characters are perverted at some point.
– Both of them have a rivalry between the main character and his best friend, they don’t like each other but end up helping each other.

 

3. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Magi The Labyrinth of MagicSynopsis – In a fantastic middle-age world where slavery is very common, there are mysterious tall towers named “Dungeon” which mysteriously appeared out of nowhere fourteen years before the storyline. Someone who conquers a Dungeon becomes very powerful and wealthy.
Our hero Ali Baba is a teenager who works for merchants to support himself. He dreams of conquering a lot of Dungeons and becoming a very rich person. One day, he comes across with a strange young boy named Aladdin who carries a mystical flute with supernatural powers in it. Ali Baba and Aladdin agree to travel their first Dungeon together.

Similarity – Magi and Nanatsu no Taizai both have unique art styles that are bright and not too realistic, favoring a younger teen audience, however, both series contain darker themes with battle, war, and murder. That being said the shows mainly contain lighter themes like easy comedy, fun, and justice.
I’d say I really enjoyed watching Magi last year and wanted to watch something similar this season, Nanatsu no Taizai was a perfect match.

 

2. Fairy Tail

Fairy TailSynopsis – In the mystical land of Fiore, magic exists as an essential part of everyday life. Countless magic guilds lie at the core of all magical activity, and serve as venues for like-minded mages to band together and take on job requests. Among them, Fairy Tail stands out from the rest as a place of strength, spirit, and family.
Lucy is a 17-year-old girl, who wants to be a full-fledged mage. One day when visiting Harujion Town, she meets Natsu, a young man who gets sick easily by any type of transportation. But Natsu isn’t just any ordinary kid, he’s a member of one of the world’s most infamous mage guilds: Fairy Tail.

Similarity – The similarity between the two includes each character has their own unique personality and ability that makes them strong. They also value their bond, and also Fairy Tail recruits members into their guild through adventures/quests they accept, so it’s essentially the same as Meliodas looking for his friends from the Seven Deadly Sins.

 

1. Akame ga Kill!

Akame ga KillSynopsis – Tatsumi is a self-acknowledged country bumpkin who is nonetheless a well-trained fighter. He and two companions leave their remote village to head to the Imperial City to find a way to relieve their friends and family from ruinous taxation imposed by the authorities. Yet the Imperial City is filled with unimaginable amounts of corruption and evil from supernatural sources. Tatsumi is immediately swindled after reaching the City and nearly loses everything soon after but finds himself allied with an unlikely group of assassins known as Night Raid.

Similarity – Tatsumi, and Elizabeth set off an adventure. Night Raid (NR) and Nanatsu no Taizai ( Seven Deadly Sins ) are portrayed as villains. But in reality are the good guys who face off against the corrupted rulers. Both NR and SDS have unique members who wield awesome powers and have a unique personality.
