10. 5 Centimeters Per Second

romance anime movies
Synopsis – Takaki Toono and Akari Shinohara, two very close friends and classmates, are torn apart when Akari’s family is transferred to another region of Japan due to her family’s job. Despite separation, they continue to keep in touch through mail. When Takaki finds out that his family is also moving, he decides to meet with Akari one last time.

As years pass by, they continue down their own paths, their distance slowly growing wider and their contact with one another fades. Yet, they keep remembering one another and the times they have shared together, wondering if they will have the chance to meet once again.

Similarity –In both movies the female protagonist transferred to another school. In both movies after a few years pass they meet up again and hang out. The differences is the female isn’t bullied, both protagonists don’t try to kill each other like Koe no Katachi. Another difference is in 5 centimeters per second the male doesn’t have problems with other people and has friends.

9. Blue Spring Ride

Ao Haru RideSynopsis – Futaba is a girl who was in love with a boy named Kō Tanaka in middle school. However, after a misunderstanding, their relationship as friends ends when he transfers schools over summer vacation. In high school, her world is turned around once again when she meets Kō again, this time under the name of Kō Mabuchi.

Similarity – Both stories tell us about the reunion of two people, who after some time will seek to settle their conflicts of the past with the goal of becoming friends and being able to remove the remorse from above.

8. When Marnie Was There

Synopsis- A young girl is sent to the country for health reasons, where she meets an unlikely friend in the form of Marnie, a young girl with flowing blonde hair. As the friendship unravels it is possible that Marnie has closer ties to the protagonist than we might expect.

Similarity – Very powerful emotionally. Centers around a girl struggling with her confidence, her health or an impairment and her social life.

7. The Garden of Words

Synopsis – On a rainy morning in Tokyo, Takao Akizuki, an aspiring shoemaker, decides to skip class to sketch designs in a beautiful garden. This is where he meets Yukari Yukino, a beautiful yet mysterious woman, for the very first time. Offering to make her new shoes, Takao continues to meet with Yukari throughout the rainy season, and without even realizing it, the two are able to alleviate the worries hidden in their hearts just by being with each other. However, their personal struggles have not disappeared completely, and as the end of the rainy season approaches, their relationship will be put to the test.

Similarity – This Movie touch on a lot of relevant subjects with a different perspective than many other with the same type of message. It might feel a bit long sometimes and drags on, but it were no big issue for me.

Like Garden of words (Kotono no Niwa) it is about a generally common subject, but both has likable characters with their understandable way of dealing with trouble. Although they do not have similar artstyle, they still have similar way of pushing a subject out.

6. Your Lie in April

Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)
Synopsis – Kōsei Arima was a piano prodigy until his mother died when he was eleven years old. The shock of losing her made him lose any interest in piano, and his life has felt monotonous ever since. Then, when he’s fourteen, his childhood friend Tsubaki introduces him to her classmate Kaori, a free-spirited violinist. Her enthusiasm reignites his interest in music and in life.

Similarity – This recommendation isn’t to say that you’ll enjoy Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso if you liked Koe no Katachi, but if you liked Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, it’s very likely you’ll like Koe no Katachi.
Describing why this is the case is difficult. Too difficult
In both this cases I recommend the sub, although the English dubs of both are also very well made. The issue is that the translations are too literal for Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and too loose for Koe no Katachi.

5. Welcome to the N.H.K.

NHK ni Youkoso
Synopsis –Twenty-two-year-old college dropout Tatsuhiro Satou has been a hikikomori for almost four years now. In his isolation, he has come to believe in many obscure conspiracy theories, but there is one in particular which he holds unshakable faith in: the theory that the evil conspirator behind his shut-in NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) status is the Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai (NHK)—an evil and secret organization dedicated to fostering the spread of hikikomori culture.

NHK ni Youkoso! is a psychological dramedy that follows Tatsuhiro as he strives to escape from the NHK’s wicked machinations and the disease of self-wrought isolation, while struggling to even just leave his apartment and find a job. His unexpected encounter with the mysterious Misaki Nakahara might signal a reversal of fortune for Tatsuhiro, but with this meeting comes the inevitable cost of having to face his greatest fear—society.

Similarity – If you like the realism which characterize NHK ni Youkoso, you will probably enjoy Koe no Katachi. Both also tackle social problems such as suicide, bullying and isolation. Koe no Katachi is the first anime that satisfied me since I’ve watched NHK ni Youkoso.

4. March comes in like a lion

3-gatsu no Lion (March comes in like a lion)
Synopsis – The protagonist Rei is a 17-year old professional shōgi player, who lives by himself, not having a real family, and has scarcely any friends. Among his acquaintances is a family, which consists of a young woman, Akari, and two young girls, Hinata and Momo, and who also keep a numerous number of cats.

Similarity – Both of these animes deal with the consequences of depression and, while to a much less pronounced extent with 3-gatsu no Lion, bullying and feelings of inadequacy. The primary driver in both of these stories is character interaction, which both helps and hurts the MCs.

3. Your Name.

Synopsis – Mitsuha Miyamizu is a high school student in the rural countryside of Japan. Taki Tachibana is a teenager living in Tokyo. As a comet approaches Earth, their dreams and lives start getting entangled. One day Mitsuha wakes up as Taki. Taki one day wakes up as Mitsuha. For a few days they sporadically switch bodies until one afternoon they lose complete contact.

Similarity – Both character is interest. So, girl difference of school or city or village the characters in pairs are different from the other anime. Whereas the voice of language is so polite and well-mannered back sound a the soundtrack it’s just the soundtrack manage also very interesting though very remarkable. But that, the emotion of sadness, loneliness, separation, different and so on

2. anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada ShiranaiSynopsis – Jinta Yadomi is peacefully living as a recluse, spending his days away from school and playing video games at home instead. One hot summer day, his childhood friend, Meiko “Menma” Honma, appears and pesters him to grant a forgotten wish. He pays her no mind, which annoys her, but he doesn’t really care. After all, Menma already died years ago.

At first, Jinta thinks that he is merely hallucinating due to the summer heat, but he is later on convinced that what he sees truly is the ghost of Menma. Jinta and his group of childhood friends grew apart after her untimely death, but they are drawn together once more as they try to lay Menma’s spirit to rest. Re-living their pain and guilt, will they be able to find the strength to help not only Menma move on—but themselves as well?

Similarity – Koe no Katachi and AnoHana share similar character traits and scenarios. Each series revolves around a group of ‘friends’ who have cut ties since childhood and brings them together again. These two series also have similar main characters, male lead with a serious disconnect from the real world and a tragic female lead. You get a similar feeling while watching both these series, they’re very emotional and dramatic. If you have seen one I would highly recommend checking out the other for a similar story and emotional experience.

1. The Anthem of the Heart

Synopsis – Jun Naruse is a chatterbox whose life is colored by fairy tales and happy endings. However, influenced by her deep belief in those tales, she is too naive and trusting, and her words soon shatter her family’s bond when she inadvertently reveals her father’s affair. Naruse is scarred for life after being blamed for her parent’s divorce, and her regrets soon manifest into a fairy egg—a being who seals her mouth from speaking in order to protect everyone’s happy ending.

Now, even in high school, Naruse’s speech remains locked by the fairy egg. Even trying to speak causes her stomach to twist. Though unable to convey her thoughts through words, she is unexpectedly chosen to perform in a musical alongside three other students: Takumi Sakagami, Natsuki Nitou, and Daiki Tasaki. Naruse makes her way to the club room to reject the daunting task, but changes her mind when she overhears Sakagami’s beautiful singing.

Perhaps the fairy egg “curse” does not apply to singing, and perhaps Sakagami is the fairy tale prince she has been seeking all along. Will Naruse be able to convey the anthem of her heart?

Similarity – These are two anime films from 2015/2016 portraying school youth dealing with guilt, alienation, and most prolific — disabilities (being unable to speak and being deaf). Both are very high class, good stories dealing with a slice of life setting focusing on human interactions; like love, friendship, feelings towards self, and how they can vary depending on one’s own mood.
