10. Orange

Anime Like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)
Synopsis – Naho Takamiya’s first day of her sophomore year of high school is off to an uneasy start. After waking up late, she receives a strange letter addressed to her. However, the letter is from herself—10 years into the future! At first, Naho is skeptical of the note; yet, after witnessing several events described to take place, she realizes the letter really is from her 26-year-old self.

The note details that Naho’s future life is filled with regrets, and she hopes that her younger self can correct the mistakes that were made in the past. The letter also warns her to keep a close eye on the new transfer student, Kakeru Naruse. Naho must be especially careful in making decisions involving him, as Kakeru is not around in the future. With the letter as her guide, Naho now has the power to protect Kakeru before she comes to regret it once more.

Similarity –The piece about “going back in time” and trying to save someone really reminds me of Orange. There is a similarity in the feeling of hoping that things will turn out the way you wished and the tuck in the heart while you wait for the ending.

9. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Anime Like Kimi no Na wa (Your Name)Synopsis – One cold Christmas day, Kyon heads over to school and the SOS Brigade’s holiday celebration, only to realize that Haruhi Suzumiya seems to have disappeared. Moreover, no one even remembers her or the SOS Brigade; Mikuru Asahina knows nothing and is now afraid of him, and Itsuki Koizumi has also gone missing. The Literature Club, formed only by an uncharacteristically shy Yuki Nagato, now occupies the old SOS club room.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu is based on the fourth light novel of the acclaimed Haruhi series and is set after the events of the anime series. Not uncultured in the supernatural, Kyon will have to deal with his whole life turned upside down like a bad joke, and maybe it’s better that way.

Similarity – Both are phenomenal movies that handle a beautiful romance that explores the themes of loss as well as stretches the bonds of a relationship through time and space. Haruhi is a bit more introspective and downtrodden, while Kimi no Na wa is a more upbeat movie.

8. The Garden of Words

Synopsis- On a rainy morning in Tokyo, Takao Akizuki, an aspiring shoemaker, decides to skip class to sketch designs in a beautiful garden. This is where he meets Yukari Yukino, a beautiful yet mysterious woman, for the very first time. Offering to make her new shoes, Takao continues to meet with Yukari throughout the rainy season, and without even realizing it, the two are able to alleviate the worries hidden in their hearts just by being with each other. However, their personal struggles have not disappeared completely, and as the end of the rainy season approaches, their relationship will be put to the test.

Similarity – Both are tear-jerkers and can literally get the best of your eyes.

Both have great plot especially in the league of drama. Although Kimi no Na wa has more humorous content in the beginning, both will stab your heart and pierce through your mind with its tear-jerking story and ending.

7. Your Lie in April

Shigatsu wa Kimi no UsoSynopsis – Music accompanies the path of the human metronome, the prodigious pianist Kousei Arima. But after the passing of his mother, Saki Arima, Kousei falls into a downward spiral, rendering him unable to hear the sound of his own piano.

Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colorless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face the music again.

Based on the manga series of the same name, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso approaches the story of Kousei’s recovery as he discovers that music is more than playing each note perfectly, and a single melody can bring in the fresh spring air of April.

Similarity – Fabulous OST first of all, but these are deserving of their high ratings. Both have a story that is very strong and interesting to follow, and by rewatching these you can see new things that you hadn’t the first time. Both stories are incredibly well told with twists and turns, but the entire thing is covered in foreshadowing. Along with beautiful art style, I am really glad that they both receive credit for all of the amazing attributes of these anime

6. 5 Centimeters Per Second

romance anime movies
Synopsis – Takaki Toono and Akari Shinohara, two very close friends and classmates, are torn apart when Akari’s family is transferred to another region of Japan due to her family’s job. Despite the separation, they continue to keep in touch through mail. When Takaki finds out that his family is also moving, he decides to meet with Akari one last time.

As years pass by, they continue down their own paths, their distance slowly growing wider and their contact with one another fades. Yet, they keep remembering one another and the times they have shared together, wondering if they will have the chance to meet once again.

Similarity – Kimi no Na wa, your name, is simply put the better version of 5 Centimeters Per Second. Both anime deal with the same themes and similar story ideas, only in my opinion your name handles them in a more interesting and original manner. The art style, animation, and music are fantastic all around in both anime and are very similar too.

5. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

romance anime movies
Synopsis –Makoto Konno is in her last year of high school, but is having a hard time deciding what to do with her future. In between enduring the pressure of her teachers and killing time with her best friends, Makoto’s life suddenly changes when she accidentally discovers that she is capable of literally leaping through time.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time follows Makoto as she plays around with her newfound power. However, she soon learns the hard way that every choice has a consequence, and time is a lot more complicated than it may seem.

Similarity – Both movies have plot developments that are similar to each other in its sci-fi/mystical elements, to which I will not say more about in fear of spoiling the story. Due to the nature of the short length of the movie, both works chose to focus more on the atmosphere and characters rather than making a seamless story.

4. Koe no Katachi

A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi)
Synopsis – As a wild youth, elementary school student Shouya Ishida sought to beat boredom in the cruelest ways. When the deaf Shouko Nishimiya transfers into his class, Shouya and the rest of his class thoughtlessly bully her for fun. However, when her mother notifies the school, he is singled out and blamed for everything done to her. With Shouko transferring out of the school, Shouya is left at the mercy of his classmates. He is heartlessly ostracized all throughout elementary and middle school, while teachers turn a blind eye.

Now in his third year of high school, Shouya is still plagued by his wrongdoings as a young boy. Sincerely regretting his past actions, he sets out on a journey of redemption: to meet Shouko once more and make amends.

Koe no Katachi tells the heartwarming tale of Shouya’s reunion with Shouko and his honest attempts to redeem himself, all while being continually haunted by the shadows of his past.

Similarity – Both character is of interest. So, girl difference of school or city or village the characters in pairs are different from the other anime. Whereas the voice of language is so polite and well-mannered back sound a the soundtrack it’s just the soundtrack manage also very interesting though very remarkable. But that, the emotion of sadness, loneliness, separation, different and so on

3. AnoHana

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
Synopsis – Five childhood friends grow apart after the death of Meiko Honma, close playmate of them all. Jinta Yadomi, leader of the group when they were kids, neglects high school and lives as a shut-in when he unexpectedly starts seeing the ghost of Meiko, who can only interact with him and no one else. She has returned to ask Jinta to fulfill the forgotten wish she made as a kid.

Similarity – Ano Hana isn’t about body-swapping like Kimi no Na wa. But what significantly makes them similar is the way the shows are extremely emotional. They both shock us with sad twists. The two shows also have similar background music that triggers your sense of sympathy. They both also deal with superstitions involved around the main female characters. If you want to cry again, I’d strongly recommend this anime.

2. ReLIFE: Kanketsu-hen

ReLIFESynopsis – After reliving the life of a high school student through the ReLIFE experiment, 27-year-old Arata Kaizaki cannot believe how quickly it has changed him. He has begun to see the world through a different perspective that he had completely forgotten as an adult. He has made friends and formed deep relationships with each one of them. However his support, Ryou Yoake, reminds him that the experiment is all an illusion; after his experiment ends, he will be forgotten by all of them.

The experiment with another ReLIFE subject is also coming to an end. After spending two years with ReLIFE, Chizuru Hishiro has developed into a more open, more thoughtful person than she could have ever imagined. She has met people who have changed her life, her perspective, and ultimately her. However, now that their ReLIFE is coming to an end, will they be able to let go of the memories they have made?

Similarity – Though the situation is different for both anime, both contain similar vibes that allow me to make a recommendation. Embracing the moment to make the present worthwhile, in a desperate attempt to not forget. This is perhaps the most spoiler-free thing I can say regarding these two anime.

1. Kokoro Connect

anime school uniformSynopsis – When five students at Yamaboshi Academy realize that there are no clubs where they fit in, they band together to form the Student Cultural Society or “StuCS” for short. The club consists of Taichi Yaegashi, a hardcore wrestling fan; Iori Nagase, an indecisive optimist; Himeko Inaba, a calm computer genius; Yui Kiriyama, a petite karate practitioner; and Yoshifumi Aoki, the class clown.

One day, Aoki and Yui experience a strange incident when, without warning, they switch bodies for a short period of time. As this supernatural phenomenon continues to occur randomly amongst the five friends, they begin to realize that it is not just fun and games. Now forced to become closer than ever, they soon discover each other’s hidden secrets and emotional scars, which could end up tearing the StuCS and their friendship apart.

Similarity – Bodies are exchanged, feelings are exchanged. The emotions that did not know that they were there to reveal themselves, connecting their souls to find what they have wanted for a long time. Two romantic comedy works with their characters, which seek meaning in their lives. In a supernatural way, they show the beauty of not keeping to themselves what they want and not forgetting the most essential, which gives meaning to everything.
