10. RIN-NE (Kyoukai no Rinne)

RIN-NESynopsis – A very strange thing happened to Mamiya Sakura as a child: She disappeared in the woods behind her grandmother’s house. Of course, Sakura doesn’t quite recall what happened next, but she’s been seeing dead people ever since—ghosts at home, ghosts at school, and even ghosts on the street. Now that she’s in high school, another strange thing has happened in her life. A desk next to her that’s sat empty all year is suddenly filled by an oddly-dressed boy named Rokudou Rinne. Rinne seems to be capable of seeing the same things Sakura does, and sometimes, other people can’t even see him. What sort of secret is Rinne-kun hiding, and how is he connected to Sakura’s strange power?

Similarity – Both are shows created by Rumiko Takahashi who are about a boy who is half human half demon/shinigami who teams up with a girl with supernatural powers/sight to exterminate/exorcise demons/ghosts and eventually have to face an antagonist who has a relationship with the main boy.

9. D.Gray-man

DGray manSynopsis – Allen Walker, a young man with a cursed eye, lives to destroy a weapon known as Akuma. These weapons created by the Milleneum Earl are sent out by his command to purge the world from humans. Allen Walker uses an anti-akuma weapon, Innocence, to counter the Earl’s attempts at destroying humanity. He travels to the Black Order by his mentor’s directions. There he meets with others who also fight against the Milleneum Earl’s plans. But more questions start to appear as Allen and his friends move further along to reach their goal. And these questions that seem to connect to Allen’s past.

Similarity – These two Animes are really similar. They both have evil demons in them who are usually the ones doing the fighting. Similar type of Music and similar plot theme. Both shows Main Villain is a Guy who is mostly using his underlings to fight for him. The only Major differences I could find was that the Main Characters are a little different

8. Kamisama Kiss (Kamisama Hajimemashita)

Kamisama KissSynopsis – High schooler Nanami Momozono has quite a few problems of late, beginning with her absentee father being in such extreme debt that they lose everything. Downtrodden and homeless, she runs into a man being harassed by a dog. After helping him, she explains her situation, and to her surprise, he offers her his home in gratitude. But when she discovers that said home is a rundown shrine, she tries to leave; however, she is caught by two shrine spirits and a fox familiar named Tomoe. They mistake her for the man Nanami rescued—the land god of the shrine, Mikage. Realizing that Mikage must have sent her there as a replacement god, Tomoe leaves abruptly, refusing to serve a human.

Similarity – Both stories feature a normal school girl who somehow gets involved with demons. Both show a romance between this girl and the main male which is a demon. Both male characters had a dark past and were in love with a human woman. Inuyasha has more action, drama etc. while KH shows a lot of funny moments. The KH anime doesn’t show to much character development because it’s really short (13 ep) but is still very enjoyable and easy to watch.

7. Rurouni Kenshin

Rurouni KenshinSynopsis – In the final years of the Bakumatsu era lived a legendary assassin known as Hitokiri Battousai. Feared as a merciless killer, he was unmatched throughout the country, but mysteriously disappeared at the peak of the Japanese Revolution. It has been ten peaceful years since then, but the very mention of Battousai still strikes terror into the hearts of war veterans. Vowing never to kill again, Kenshin dedicates himself to protecting the weak. One day, he stumbles across Kaoru Kamiya at her kendo dojo, which is being threatened by an impostor claiming to be Battousai. After receiving help from Kenshin, Kaoru allows him to stay at the dojo, and so the former assassin temporarily ceases his travels.

Similarity – Both about a man that had a bad past and then after a few years they began to change although in Inuyasha the main mostly changed because of the meeting with the girl other then that the story is quite similar both revoled around the guy main character both has romance although not so much in Rurouni Kenshin

6. Zakuro (Otome Youkai Zakuro)

Otome Youkai ZakuroSynopsis – Second Lieutenant Kei Agemaki, the son of a famous general, has hidden his extreme fear of paranormal beings all his life. However, when he and two others are reassigned to live and work with youkai in the Ministry of Spirit Affairs, he is brought face-to-face with his worst nightmare. Now with the help of the fox spirit Kushimatsu, he and his fellow officers must learn to work alongside youkai maidens—Zakuro, Susukihotaru, Hoozuki, and Bonbori—to solve paranormal cases.

Similarity – Both of these Anime deal with half-demons, each with a different way of becoming demons. They also deal with spiritual powers with female characters. They also have detailed art, though more so with Otome Youkai Zakuro due to it being newer.

5. Ranma ½

RanmaSynopsis – Ranma Saotome is a top-class martial artist and prodigy at the Saotome “Anything-Goes” school of martial arts. While training in China, he and his father meet a terrible fate when they accidentally fall into a cursed spring. Now, Ranma is cursed to turn into a girl when splashed with cold water, and only hot water can turn him back into a boy. Things are only complicated further when Ranma discovers that his father has arranged for him to marry one of Soun Tendo’s three daughters in order to secure the future of the Tendo dojo. Though Soun learns of Ranma’s predicament, he is still determined to go ahead with the engagement and chooses his youngest daughter Akane, who happens to be a skilled martial artist herself and is notorious for hating men.

Similarity – I love both series very much, and that is because I’m a big fan of Takahashi Rumiko, the creator of both, Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha.
The story isn’t really similar, but the art and the characters sure are! Inuyasha is more dramatic and serious, while Ranma has a quite stupid and illogical story, it is amazingly funny though! If you like the funny moments in Inuyasha you should know that if you watch Ranma 1/2, you’ll laugh at least every 5 minutes.

4. Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona)

Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn)Synopsis – Princess Yona lives a life of luxury and ease, completely sheltered from the problems of the seemingly peaceful Kingdom of Kouka; however, the sudden murder of the king and betrayal of her beloved cousin Su-won places Yona’s life in mortal peril. Forced to escape only with Son Hak, who is both her childhood friend and bodyguard, the naïve princess soon discovers that Kouka is not the idyllic place she envisioned it to be. Poverty, strife, and corruption run rampant, making reclaiming the throne nothing more than a wishful fantasy given the kingdom’s current state.

Similarity – Both anime feature female main characters that start off weak but gradually grow as they learn more about the world around them and their own abilities. Another similarity is that both those strong MCS use bow and arrows as their weapon. Besides that, both anime are great Fantasy/Romance, which, in my opinion, is a genre combination that isn’t usually well made. In those two anime, the feelings of the main characters are taken into consideration during their journey.

3. Blue Seed

Blue SeedSynopsis – Momiji is an average girl until the day she finds she is the descendant of the great Kushinada family. Only she, with her Kushinada blood, can stop the Aragami, demonic plant-like monsters threatening to destroy Japan. Along to help her is the TAC, and a possible love interest in a young man named Kusanagi.

Similarity – InuYasha is very similar to Blue seed. The story uses a lot of the story plots from Blue Seed. Both are action comedies dealing with a school girl who falls in love with a rebelish demon guy who was once in love with someone they were connected too such as in Blue Seed a her unknown sister or as in InuYasha her previous life character. I believe if you enjoy one you should enjoy the other.

2. The Vision of Escaflowne (Tenkuu no Escaflowne)

The Vision of Escaflowne

Synopsis – Hitomi Kanzaki is just an ordinary 15-year-old schoolgirl with an interest in tarot cards and fortune telling, but one night, a boy named Van Fanel suddenly appears from the sky along with a vicious dragon. Thanks to a premonition from Hitomi, Van successfully kills the dragon, but a pillar of light appears and envelopes them both. As a result, Hitomi finds herself transported to the world of Gaea, a mysterious land where the Earth hangs in the sky.

Similarity – The usual high school student who finds a portal to a different world whilst finding a “foreign” love. The main female ends up befriending many people to help the love interest with his problems. A bunch of action/romance/drama here yet still very entertaining to watch.

1. Mysterious Play (Fushigi Yuugi)

Fushigi YugiSynopsis – While visiting the National Library, junior-high students Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo are transported into the world of a mysterious book set in ancient China, “The Universe of The Four Gods.” Miaka suddenly finds herself with the responsibility of being the priestess of Suzaku, and must find all of her celestial warriors for the purpose of summoning Suzaku for three wishes; however, the enemy nation of the god Seiryuu has manipulated Yui into becoming the priestess of Seiryuu. As enemies, the former best friends begin their long struggle to summon their respective gods and obtain their wishes…

Similarity – Both are similar because they involve a modern girl who gets transported to alternative feudal Chinese world. They also appear to have some of the same historical Chinese myths and legend occasionally. Both are fantasy anime but Fushigi Yuugi seems to involve more dramatic plot turns, deeper romance between the main characters, and occasionally serious subject to bring depth to the character and expose their psyche.
