10. GetBackers

The duo operates a freelance repossession service out of one of the seedier areas of Shinjuku, Tokyo. For a fee, they will recover any lost or stolen item for a client with “an almost 100% success rate”. The GetBackers’ job often leads them into bizarre and dangerous situations in order to “get back what shouldn’t be gone”. Their targets range from lost video games to misplaced components of an atomic bomb. The plot mostly revolves around their adventures, often complicated by the pair’s convoluted, individual pasts and a mysterious place known as the Infinity Fortress.

Similarity – GetBackers and Hunter x Hunter consist of a cast of characters that specialize in various skills. There are a lot of character dynamics explored through various story arcs. The main male protagonists of both series show some similarities in their personalities, in particular, Gon and Ginji. The relationships they share with another prominent character is made of a great friendship.
Elements of action, drama, comedy, and suspense are also built up throughout both series that are consistent.

9. One Punch Man

One Punch ManSynopsis – On an unnamed Earth-like super-continent planet, strange monsters and supervillains have been mysteriously appearing and causing disasters. To combat them, the world’s superheroes have risen to fight them. Each of the Hero Association’s superheroes are ranked from S-Class which is the strongest to C-Class which is the weakest. Saitama is one such hero, hailing from the metropolis of Z-City. He has trained himself and grown strong to the point that he can effortlessly defeat any opponent with a single punch. However, Saitama became a hero for the fun of the experience, and he has lately become bored with his superhuman power and frustrated at the complete lack of strong opponents that can challenge him.

Similarity – Both animes are from the same studio. Meaning they look awesome, just AWESOME. The fights are easy to follow, look amazing and have a lot of detail. Some characters look really remind you of another in a positive way. Both animes have a goal to aspire. Becoming a great Hunter or a great Hero. They involve different species and a complex varied world.

8. Made in Abyss

Made in AbyssSynopsis – The story is centered around an orphan girl named Riko who lives in the town of Orth on an island in the sea of Beoluska. The city surrounds a strange, giant hole going deep into the earth, which is commonly called the Abyss. The Abyss harbors artifacts and remnants of a civilization long gone, and is, therefore, the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descents into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find.
Riko’s goal is to follow in her mother’s footsteps and solve the mysteries of the Abyss. Riko is informed that some items sent by Lyza were recovered, including a message to her, telling her to meet in the bottom of the Abyss. Riko then bids farewell to her friends and departs to the Abyss in search for her mother, despite knowing of the risks and the fact that due to the Curse of the Abyss, she will never be able to return.

Similarity – Adventure! The search for the unknown! Made in Abyss is quite similar to Hunter x Hunter given the fact that in both the anime, the main character goes out for adventure with his/her friends. The main character of Made in Abyss, Riko, goes into the abyss in search for her mother, whereas Gon. the main lead of HxH adventures the vast Hunter world in search for his father.

7. Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)

Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)Synopsis – In a world where people with superpowers known as “Quirks” are the norm, Izuku Midoriya has dreams of one day becoming a Hero despite being bullied by his classmates for not having a Quirk. After being the only one to try and save his childhood bully Katsuki from a villain, the world’s greatest Hero, All Might, bestows upon him his own quirk “One For All”. The story follows Izuku’s entrance into U.A. High School, a school that cultivates the next generation of superheroes.

Similarity – Strong people in crazy costumes with superhuman abilities. Very shounen, but minimal fan service, and the characters are all unique, entertaining, and intelligent! Also, both have wonderful soundtracks. You can’t go wrong here.

6. Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins)

Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins)

Ten years later, the Holy Knights staged a coup d’état and captured the king, becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the kingdom. The third princess, Elizabeth, then starts out on a journey to find the Seven Deadly Sins and enlist their help in taking back the kingdom.

Similarity – They’re both series involving magical abilities and can have the happiest and saddest moments. The fights aren’t long and drawn out, they keep it interesting. Overall two happy shows with some serious, dark moments too change it up.

5. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Magi The Labyrinth of Magic
Synopsis – The story is set in an alternate recreation of the ancient Old World with several regions and nations having some resemblances with real-life counterparts from that time. There are also several magic castles full of treasures and traps are known as “Dungeons” and each of them is the lair of a powerful magic being, a Djinn. Individuals that manage to overcome the trials of a Dungeon and earn the allegiance of its Djinn are known as Dungeon Capturers, gaining the ability to use its powers infused in a personal item of theirs known as a “Metal Vessel” and create less potent “Household Vessels” for their companions as well.

Similarity – Gon and Aladin are a lot alike they’re both really sweet and energetic. They both make a lot of different friends and start an adventure looking for someone. Gon looking for his dad and Aladin looking for other dijinn’s. They’re both really fun to watch.

4. Bleach

Bleach
Synopsis – Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he obtains the powers of a Soul Reaper a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper — from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His newfound powers force him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits and guiding departed souls to the afterlife.

Similarity – Both series are long-running (lots of episodes) series that center around action and fighting. The main characters are very good and the stories are very profound. The powers of the characters are very well thought of and become even more epic as the series progresses. They will have you drop your jaw when you see the epic battles.

3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Synopsis – Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric are raised by their mother Trisha Elric in the remote village of Resembool in the country of Amestris. Their father Hohenheim, a noted and very gifted alchemist, abandoned his family while the boys were still young. The boys traveled the world to advance their alchemic training under Izumi Curtis. Upon returning home, the two decide to try to bring their mother back to life with alchemy.
However, human transmutation is a taboo, as it is impossible to do so properly. In the failed transmutation that results, Al’s body is completely obliterated and Ed loses his left leg. In a last-ditch attempt to keep his brother alive, Ed sacrifices his right arm to bring Al’s soul back and houses it in a nearby suit of armor. After Edward receives automail prosthetics from Winry and Pinako, the brothers decide to burn their childhood home down and head to the capital city to become government sanctioned State Alchemists. After passing the exam, Edward is dubbed the “Fullmetal Alchemist” by the State Military, and the brothers begin their quest to discover the nature of the fabled Philosopher’s Stone.

Similarity – Both have ‘magic’, alchemy and aura, except with the former the source is external, latter internal. Alchemy is based on medieval historical musings, the aura is modern parapsychology, but it also seems derived from Chinese Chi. In contrast, though, FM’s antagonists follow the cardinal sins’ tropes, which results in predictable behavior based on past performance, whereas HxH has more unpredictable personalities and antagonists do not necessarily antagonize, although there is a central commonality in the origin of both when it comes to how they came to be

2. Naruto

NarutoSynopsis – A powerful fox known as the Nine-Tails attacks Konoha, the hidden leaf village in the Land of Fire, one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries in the Ninja World. In response, the leader of Konoha, the Fourth Hokage, seals the fox inside the body of his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki, making Naruto a host of the beast. Naruto is often ridiculed by the Konoha villagers for being the host of the Nine-Tails. Because of a decree made by the Third Hokage forbidding anyone to mention these events, Naruto knows nothing about the Nine-Tails until 12 years later, when Mizuki, a renegade ninja, reveals the truth to Naruto.

Similarity – A lot of the time when one is explaining a popular shonen server, one hears the word “generic” but when explaining these two anime, the word to use is “exciting”. HxH and Naruto are about young boys who start their journey to complete a goal of becoming something: Naruto wants to be Hokage and Gon wants to become a great Hunter. Both anime have many different characters which are unique and memorable. Both have many arcs that tie into a meta-narrative. If you are looking for a fun action/adventure anime, then these two are a good choice.

1. One Piece

one pieceSynopsis – The series focuses on Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who, inspired by his childhood idol and powerful pirate “Red-Haired” Shanks, sets off on a journey from the East Blue Sea to find the famed treasure One Piece and proclaim himself the King of the Pirates. In an effort to organize his own crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy rescues and befriends a swordsman named Roronoa Zoro, and they head off in search of the One Piece. They are joined in their journey by Nami, a navigator, and thief; Usopp, a sniper and a liar; and Sanji, a womanizing chef.
They acquire a ship named the Going Merry and engage in confrontations with notorious pirates of the East Blue. As Luffy and his crew set out on their adventures, others join the crew later in the series, including the doctor and anthropomorphized reindeer Tony Tony Chopper, an archaeologist and former assassin Nico Robin, a cyborg shipwright Franky, a skeletal musician Brook, and a Fishman helmsman Jinbei.

Similarity – An ambitious and particularly strong young boy setting on a journey in a vast mysterious world, full of unexplored lands and strange creatures. There he meets friends and face various dangers and enemies in order to fulfill his dream.
I would say that One Piece is more about adventure while HxH is more about a battle. Maybe HxH is a bit darker too, and OP funnier, but both are great shows.
