8. Elfen Lied
7. Neon Genesis Evangelion
6. Zetsuen no Tempest
5. Kakumeiki Valvrave
4. Aldnoah.Zero

10. Koutetsujou no Kabaneri

Synopsis – The world is in the midst of the industrial revolution when horrific creatures emerge from a mysterious virus, ripping through the flesh of humans to sate their never-ending appetite. The only way to kill these beings, known as “Kabane,” is by destroying their steel-coated hearts. However, if bitten by one of these monsters, the victim is doomed to a fate worse than death, as the fallen rise once more to join the ranks of their fellow undead.

Similarity –Both anime have a great animation with a promising plot that gets flushed down the drain.

Both series face an extinction caused by a virus, in Kabaneri case virus turns people to zombie. Both series have a bishoujo character gone bad, strong relationship/friendship between two leads. Female being a cause of MCs stronger powers and etc.

Differences, different time era. Kabaneri is more bloody. Guilty Crown develops its plot more.

If you managed to see redeeming qualities in one, you might in another. Otherwise watch it purely for animation and sound. More of a story and character person? Don’t bother with either then.

9. Owari no Seraph

Synopsis – With the appearance of a mysterious virus that kills everyone above the age of 13, mankind becomes enslaved by previously hidden, power-hungry vampires who emerge in order to subjugate society with the promise of protecting the survivors, in exchange for donations of their blood.

Among these survivors are Yuuichirou and Mikaela Hyakuya, two young boys who are taken captive from an orphanage, along with other children whom they consider family. Discontent with being treated like livestock under the vampires’ cruel reign, Mikaela hatches a rebellious escape plan that is ultimately doomed to fail. The only survivor to come out on the other side is Yuuichirou, who is found by the Moon Demon Company, a military unit dedicated to exterminating the vampires in Japan

Similarity – Guilty Crown revolves around a male lead trying to save the world in which they live. Both shows take place in a Dystopian society except that Guilty Crown is a little more futuristic. In Guilty Crown, humanity suffers from a crystallized version of cancer where in Seraph, they fall to a virus that kills all adults. The MC in Guilty Crown is an innocent student dragged into the plot while in Seraph it’s basically the same thing, except he is an orphan. Both anime have the same composer as well (Hiroyuki Sawano) so the soundtracks sound very very similar.

8. Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied

Synopsis- Lucy is a special breed of human referred to as “Diclonius,” born with a short pair of horns and invisible telekinetic hands that lands her as a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her an opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by the confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors.

During her breakout, she receives a crippling head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child possessing limited speech capacity. In this state of instability, she stumbles upon two college students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take an injured fugitive into their care, unaware of her murderous tendencies. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves dragged into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.

Similarity – Elfen Lied & Guilty Crown are both hilarious they seem a little bit similar as long as one of the main characters will sacrifice for her Lover or for ”The World” in case of violence Elfen Lied is kind of aggressive more than Guilty Crown; killing, cutting,…. there is No Mercy enjoy as well for Guilty Crown but its Less than … they share a lot of stuff I mean in common something like emotions, Feelings, Tsundere Stuff wherever its up To you guys

7. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Synopsis – In the year 2015, the world stands on the brink of destruction. Humanity’s last hope lies in the hands of Nerv, a special agency under the United Nations, and their Evangelions, giant machines capable of defeating the Angels who herald Earth’s ruin. Gendou Ikari, head of the organization, seeks compatible pilots who can synchronize with the Evangelions and realize their true potential. Aiding in this defensive endeavor are talented personnel Misato Katsuragi, Head of Tactical Operations, and Ritsuko Akagi, Chief Scientist.

Similarity – The main characters have similar personalities –awkward, indecisive and weak. Both of them struggle with their weaknesses at first but the series of events leave them with no choice and ultimately lead them to find their inner strength and fight. Secrets and betrayal also play an important part on both. The tone of these anime was almost the same. If you liked the mind-blowing character development and unpredictable plot, you’ll probably like these series.

6. Zetsuen no Tempest

Synopsis – Yoshino Takigawa, an ordinary teenager, is secretly dating his best friend Mahiro’s younger sister. But when his girlfriend Aika mysteriously dies, Mahiro disappears, vowing to find the one responsible and make them pay for murdering his beloved sister. Yoshino continues his life as usual and has not heard from Mahiro in a month—until he is confronted by a strange girl who holds him at gunpoint, and his best friend arrives in the nick of time to save him.

Yoshino learns that Mahiro has enlisted the help of a witch named Hakaze Kusaribe to find Aika’s killer and of the existence of an entity known as the “Tree of Exodus.” The witch’s brother selfishly desires to make use of its power, in spite of the impending peril to the world. However, Hakaze is banished to a deserted island, and it is now up to Yoshino and Mahiro to help her save the world while inching ever closer to the truth behind Aika’s death.

Similarity – Both Zetsuen no Tempest and Guilty Crown include a world where most of the people die (GC-virus, Zetsuen-Black iron syndrome). Also, the graphics are similar and exciting. I must say that the soundtracks are good, as well. As far as I’m concerned, I liked Zetsuen no Tempest much more that Guilty Crown and I found it more interesting. If you like poetic content and deeper meaning in an anime, I’d say you would prefer watching it.

5. Kakumeiki Valvrave

Synopsis –Kakumeiki Valvrave commences in an outer space JIOR colony, where 17-year-old Haruto Tokishima’s peaceful life is turned upside down as a sudden Dorssian fleet breaches the neutral colony. Their objective is to seize the Valvraves: powerful, but rumored mechanized weapons hidden deep within Haruto’s school, Sakimori Academy. In the ensuing chaos, Haruto stumbles upon one of the targeted Valvraves. With his friends’ lives in peril, Haruto enters the mecha and seals a contract for its power in exchange for his humanity. With the aid of L-elf—an enigmatic Dorssian agent and gifted strategist—Haruto and the Valvrave initiate a revolution to liberate the world.

Similarity – Both are Mecha, Super Power, Sci-fi, Romance shows. The story is something like this. The male lead is weak in terms of power in the beginning, but very soon receives a mysterious power that allows them to fight for their beliefs and make an impact in the results. The way the story progresses and ends also bear semblance.

Well, these are nothing to be surprised about. After all, the same person wrote the story for Kakumeiki Valvrave and Guilty Crown

4. Aldnoah.Zero

Synopsis – The discovery of a hypergate on the Moon once allowed the human race to teleport to Mars. Those who chose to settle there unearthed a technology far more advanced than that of their home planet, which they named “Aldnoah.” This discovery led to the founding of the Vers Empire of Mars and a declaration of war against the “Terrans,” those who stayed behind on Earth. However, a battle on the moon—later called “Heaven’s Fall”—caused the hypergate to explode, destroying the moon and leading the two planets to establish an uneasy ceasefire.

Their peace was a fragile one, however. Fifteen years later, high school student Inaho Kaizuka witnesses the plotted assassination of the Vers Empire’s Princess Asseylum Vers Allusia, who had come to Earth in hopes of repairing the relationship between the empire and its homeland. The ceasefire is shattered, and the Martians declare war on the Terrans once again. In the face of this insurmountable enemy, Inaho and his friends must now fight against the Vers Empire to settle the war once and for all.

Similarity – Made by the Same team.

– The relation-ship between nation-states, organizations, and specific people is key to understanding the central context of the series, and both of them make use of it in very similar ways.
– Colonialism and suppression of nations (aka. peoples) is a central part of the driving factor behind both series.
– Creates the same chills you got from watching Guilty Crown
– Visually similar, although aldnoah provides the better, more new option.
– Both series start off with a female character finding herself in some kind of situation involving her, getting locked on by missiles.
– Both series have terrorism and mutually assured cease-fire at the hearth.
– Viewers that saw Guilty Crown, may also find the music score by Sawano Hiroyuki, a pleasure to their ears, as he was also the composer behind the Guilty Crown soundtrack

3. Deadman Wonderland

Deadman Wonderland

Synopsis – It looked like it would be a normal day for Ganta Igarashi and his classmates—they were preparing to go on a class field trip to a certain prison amusement park called Deadman Wonderland, where the convicts perform dangerous acts for the onlookers’ amusement. However, Ganta’s life is quickly turned upside down when his whole class gets massacred by a mysterious man in red. 2. Eureka Seven

He desires to leave his home behind and join the mercenary group known as Gekkostate, hoping to find some adventure to brighten up his mundane life. However, stuck between his grandfather’s insistence to become a mechanic like him and the pressure of his deceased father’s legacy, the only excitement Renton finds is in his pastime of riding the Trapar wave particles that are dispersed throughout the air, an activity akin to surfing.

Everything changes when an unknown object crashes through Renton’s garage discovered to be a Light Finding Operation—a robot capable of riding the Trapar waves—specifically known as the Nirvash typeZERO. Its pilot is a young girl named Eureka, a member of the Gekkostate, who requests a tune-up for the Nirvash. Their meeting sparks the beginning of Renton’s involvement with the Gekkostate as he takes off alongside Eureka as the co-pilot of the Nirvash.

1. Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch

Code Geass

Synopsis – In the year 2010, the Holy Empire of Britannia is establishing itself as a dominant military nation, starting with the conquest of Japan. Renamed to Area 11 after its swift defeat, Japan has seen significant resistance against these tyrants in an attempt to regain independence.

Lelouch Lamperouge, exiled prince of Britannia, unfortunately, finds himself caught in a crossfire between the two nations’ armed forces. He is able to escape, however, thanks to the timely appearance of a mysterious girl named C.C., who bestows upon him Geass, the “Power of Kings.” Realizing the vast potential of his newfound “power of absolute obedience,” Lelouch embarks upon a perilous journey as the masked vigilante known as Zero, leading a merciless onslaught against Britannia in order to get revenge once and for all.

Similarity – It’s hard not to see Guilty Crown as something of a Code Geass rip-off when they’re similar to the extent the main character receives “the power of the king” from a mysterious female, before involving himself in a Japanese rebellion against foreigners discriminating against the Japanese. There are even robots on roller-skates in it!

So far, what keeps the two as separate entities is the respective leads. In Code Geass Lelouch starts the rebellion himself and is driven by both hatred and the desire to protect his disabled little sister. In Guilty Crown the lead is (mod edit) a bit emotionally unstable and gets himself pulled into the rebellion of another man.
