10. Claymore

Synopsis – When a shapeshifting demon with a thirst for human flesh, known as “youma,” arrives in Raki’s village, a lone woman with silver eyes walks into town with only a sword upon her back. She is a “Claymore,” a being manufactured as half-human and half-youma, for the express purpose of exterminating these monsters. After Raki’s family is killed, the Claymore saves his life, but he is subsequently banished from his home. With nowhere else to go, Raki finds the Claymore, known as Clare, and decides to follow her on her journeys.

As the pair travel from town to town, defeating youma along the way, more about Clare’s organization and her fellow warriors comes to light. With every town cleansed and every demon destroyed, they come closer to the youma on which Clare has sought vengeance ever since she chose to become a Claymore.

Similarity –both stories have almost the same monsters…. Akuma’s killing people for food and for them to evolve and take the form of the people they ate. claymore’s youma or yoma also shows the same….. youma eat humans for food and they evolve into stronger monsters and as they say… Allen W is half human half Akuma… Clare in Claymore is half human, half Yoma.

9. Pandora Hearts

Pandora HeartsSynopsis – To young Oz Vessalius, heir to the Vessalius Duke House, the perilous world called the Abyss is nothing more than a folktale used to scare misbehaving children. However, when Oz’s coming-of-age ceremony is interrupted by the malicious Baskerville Clan intent on banishing him into the depths of the Abyss, the Vessalius heir realizes that his peaceful life of luxury is at its end. Now, he must confront the world of the Abyss and its dwellers, the monstrous “Chains,” which are both not quite as fake as he once believed.

Based on the supernatural fantasy manga of the same name, Pandora Hearts tells the story of fifteen-year-old Oz’s journey to discover the meaning behind the strange events that have overtaken his life. Assisted by a mysterious Chain named Alice, whose nickname is “Bloodstained Black Rabbit,” and members of a clandestine organization known as “Pandora,” Oz begins to realize his existence may have more meaning than he could have ever imagined.

Similarity – The main protagonists both have a tendency to act like “my life doesn’t matter since I don’t have anything important to me anymore” aka they seem a bit suicidal.
The series both are very similarly executed. They have a love for details, well-shown hilarity and a nice dark gothic atmosphere.
Both series have lovable characters who sometimes even act similarly.

8. Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha

Darker than Black Kuro no KeiyakushaSynopsis- It has been 10 years since Heaven’s Gate appeared in South America and Hell’s Gate appeared in Japan, veiling the once familiar night sky with an oppressive skyscape. Their purposes unknown, these Gates are spaces in which the very laws of physics are ignored. With the appearance of the Gates emerged Contractors, who, in exchange for their humanity, are granted supernatural abilities.

In the Japanese city surrounding Hell’s Gate, Section 4 Chief Misaki Kirihara finds herself at odds with an infamous Contractor codenamed Hei. Called “Black Reaper” in the underground world, Hei, like his associates, undertakes missions for the mysterious and ruthless Syndicate while slowly peeling back the dark layers covering a nefarious plot that threatens the very existence of Contractors.

From the mind of Tensai Okamura comes a sci-fi thriller taking the form of a subtle exposé on a war in which political positions and justice have no sway—a war waged exclusively in the shadows.

Similarity – Both have a guy who seems innocent on the outside, but has special powers and connected to secret organizations which battle against certain phenomena which affect people within the city; all part of many principles tying up to form a large plot. Both have the same dark supernatural power which takes over certain people which they must overcome.

7. Blood+

Synopsis – Saya Otonashi is a seemingly ordinary girl living a mundane life with her adoptive family in Okinawa City. In fact, her only peculiarities are suffering from anemia and being unable to remember any of her life beyond the previous year.

However, Saya’s forgotten past quickly comes back to haunt her—one night, she is attacked at school by a creature that feeds on human blood. Just when all hope seems lost, a mysterious man named Haji appears and fends off the creature temporarily. But when her rescuer forces her to drink his blood, Saya suddenly enters a trance and slays the monster with ease, using her own blood as a catalyst.

Saya then learns of an organization named Red Shield, founded for the sole purpose of defeating the hellish beasts. Now Saya and Haji must work together with Red Shield to fight these fearsome monsters and unlock the secrets to the girl’s past.

Similarity – When I started watching Blood+, the first thing that came to my mind was D.Gray Man but in a different setting. Both have two parties, the good guys, and the bad guys. They both have in common an organization which fights off the antagonists. Another noticeable similarity is the ‘monsters’ even though they’re different, they both are dangerous to humanity and humans can also turn into these ‘monsters’.

6. Owari no Seraph

Synopsis – After an unknown virus wiped out all adults on earth, vampires appeared and ruled over the surviving children, treating them like livestock. Yuichiro Hyakuya survived along with other orphans by giving their blood to vampires, until Yuichiro escaped four years ago. Now he is a member of the Moon Demon Company, a unit in the Japanese army dedicated to hunting down the vampires he blames for the death of his family.

Similarity – Both series have an organization of superpowered badasses that fight evil creatures, and the other side is your typical evil monsters that have some sort of royalty ranking system and are generally sinister. There’s also the five-man band of main characters, and then a few others who fade in and out. The most striking similarity, however, is the general vibe. It’s dark with some lighthearted moments. Not to mention the uniforms are very much similar.

5. Trinity Blood

Synopsis –The background is in the distant future after the destruction brought about by Armageddon. The war between the vampires and the humans continue to persist. In order to protect the humans from the vampires, the Vatican has to rely on other allies to counter the situation. The protagonist, Abel Nightroad, is a traveling priest from the Vatican and a crusnik, a vampire that drinks the blood of vampires. He is a member of the “Ax”, a special operations group led by Cardinal Catherina Sforza. He encounters a young girl called Esther, who decides to go with him to Rome and train at the Vatican. Soon after he meets her, the order of Rozencreuz, led by Abel’s twin, Cain, tries to continue the war so they can rule the world. It’s up to Abel and the AX to try and stop them.

Similarity – D. Gray-man is much like Trinity Blood visually and even vaguely with the premise. At first, glance, when I first started watching Trinity Blood I actually thought I was watching a new D. Gray-man episode. While in Trinity Blood it is a battle between humans and vampires, and even vampires with differing views, D. Gray-man is fighting between Akuma and the humans. They both have similar organizations, D.Gray-man the black order which fights demons, and the Vatican in Trinity Blood which also fights evil.

4. Bleach

Top 10 Anime Swordsmen
Synopsis – Ichigo Kurosaki is an ordinary high schooler—until his family is attacked by a Hollow, a corrupt spirit that seeks to devour human souls. It is then that he meets a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki, who gets injured while protecting Ichigo’s family from the assailant. To save his family, Ichigo accepts Rukia’s offer of taking her powers and becomes a Soul Reaper as a result.

However, as Rukia is unable to regain her powers, Ichigo is given the daunting task of hunting down the Hollows that plague their town. However, he is not alone in his fight, as he is later joined by his friends—classmates Orihime Inoue, Yasutora Sado, and Uryuu Ishida—who each have their own unique abilities. As Ichigo and his comrades get used to their new duties and support each other on and off the battlefield, the young Soul Reaper soon learns that the Hollows are not the only real threat to the human world.

Similarity – Both are action/shonen series, with a group of good guys slowly fighting their way through the ranks of the bad guys, powering up in the process. While D.Gray-Man is often more serious than Bleach, they both have their moments of comedy to lighten up the mood when needed. Also, >100 % synch rate = bankai all the way.

3. Soul Eater

Soul Eater
Synopsis –Death City is home to the famous Death Weapon Meister Academy, a technical academy headed by the Shinigami—Lord Death himself. Its mission: to raise “Death Scythes” for the Shinigami to wield against the many evils of their fantastical world. These Death Scythes, however, are not made from physical weapons; rather, they are born from human hybrids who have the ability to transform their bodies into Demon Weapons, and only after they have consumed the souls of 99 evil beings and one witch’s soul.

Soul Eater Evans, a Demon Scythe who only seems to care about what’s cool, aims to become a Death Scythe with the help of his straight-laced wielder, or meister, Maka Albarn. The contrasting duo work and study alongside the hot-headed Black☆Star and his caring weapon Tsubaki, as well as the Shinigami’s own son, Death the Kid, an obsessive-compulsive dual wielder of twin pistols Patty and Liz.

Soul Eater follows these students of Shibusen as they take on missions to collect souls and protect the city from the world’s threats while working together under the snickering sun to become sounder in mind, body, and soul.

Similarity – Both stories involved the theme, supernatural and good vs bad. In D.Gray-Man, the exorcists are fighting against the Akuma, Noahs and earl who wanted to bring the world to an end. While in Soul Eater, the meisters and their weapons are fighting against the demon god, witches, and humans who have turned evil.

2. Fullmetal Alchemist

Synopsis – Edward Elric, a young, brilliant alchemist, has lost much in his twelve-year life: when he and his brother Alphonse try to resurrect their dead mother through the forbidden act of human transmutation, Edward loses his brother as well as two of his limbs. With his supreme alchemy skills, Edward binds Alphonse’s soul to a large suit of armor.

A year later, Edward, now promoted to the fullmetal alchemist of the state, embarks on a journey with his younger brother to obtain the Philosopher’s Stone. The fabled mythical object is rumored to be capable of amplifying an alchemist’s abilities by leaps and bounds, thus allowing them to override the fundamental law of alchemy: to gain something, an alchemist must sacrifice something of equal value. Edward hopes to draw into the military’s resources to find the fabled stone and restore his and Alphonse’s bodies to normal. However, the Elric brothers soon discover that there is more to the legendary stone than meets the eye, as they are led to the epicenter of a far darker battle than they could have ever imagined.

Similarity – Allen Walker in D. Gray Man is in a very similar setting: orphan child who finds a family in a military environment.
The values are similar in these two series: friendship, loyalty, honor, fighting.
The adventures are more episodic in Allen’s case. But the characters are very different: Ed is a very straightforward person: his mystery is elaborated in details right in the first episode, his motives are clear and unchanging, and he is kind of selfish. He is very impulsive and very loving.
Allen is, on the other hand, distant from other people, but he is lovable, too. He is different in one very important quality: self-sacrifice. He is not that famous or popular like Ed, but he gains more friends than him.

1. Ao no Exorcist

Synopsis – Humans live in the world of Assiah, demons in Gehenna. The two dimensions are not meant to interfere with each other, but demons still possess creatures in Assiah in spite of this. The humans who can fight these demons are known as exorcists. Rin Okumura is a boy who bears the curse of being Satan’s illegitimate son. His foster father sacrificed himself to save him from demons. To avenge his foster father’s death as well as to prove himself, Rin decides to follow the path of an exorcist.

Similarity – Both are shounen action series where the protagonists are Exorcists with special powers who fight and defeat demons, and who are regimented in an academy setting with their comrades. Both are battle series with strong biblical themes and dark gothic art.
