Synopsis – Jormungand follows Koko, Jonah, and the rest of crew as they travel the world selling weapons under the international shipping company HCLI. As Koko’s work is illegal under international law, she is forced to constantly sidestep both local and international authorities while doing business with armies, private militaries, and militias. With the CIA always hot on her trail, and assassins around every corner, Jonah and the crew must guard Koko and her dream of world peace with their lives or die trying.

Similarity –Black Lagoon and Jormungand share NUMEROUS similarities Guns, mercinaries, arms dealers, cursing, swearing, booze, and lots of action and great stories and characters. Both series show the darker side of the world. Shows why some people should not be messed with ever. Wether it is Koko and her mercinarie or the Lagoon Company you do not want to mess with either of them. The emphasis on dominant, psychotic women, both in the physical AND mental arenas, is one. A heavy focus on guns is another. And perhaps the most obvious is that both series revolve around mercenary crews that make money via smuggling goods

9. Btooom!

BTOOOM

Synopsis – Ryouta Sakamoto is unemployed and lives with his mother, his only real achievement being that he is Japan’s top player of the popular online video game, “Btooom!” However, his peaceful life is about to change when he finds himself stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere, with a small, green crystal embedded in his left hand and no memory of how he got there. To his shock, someone has decided to recreate the game he is so fond of in real life, with the stakes being life or death.

Similarity – both have companionship that are born in war type settings were the male main like the girl main
both have blood and gory scenes and tactics to pull off the perfect kill.
black lagoon has a more Marfia vibe to it. and btoom! a beat the odds in a game vibe.
Both of these series deal with people that normal society wouldn’t care if they disappeared. They also both have to fight for their own survival.

8. Dogs: Bullets & Carnage

Synopsis- It is sometime in the future, where a certain European city extends far underground, even secret, dark levels that have the key to the past. Ex-assassin Mihai has returned and is living with Kiri, who now runs a restaurant. Sword-wielding Naoto, Haine (white hair), a mysterious product of genetic engineering and his sometime partner Badou (eyepatch).

Similarity – Both anime are quite similar thematically and stylistically. They focus on the underworld and criminal factions and have a lot of gunslinging action. Both anime also have strong protagonists, who are very proficient with weapons.

7. Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha

Anime Like 91 Days

Synopsis – It has been 10 years since Heaven’s Gate appeared in South America and Hell’s Gate appeared in Japan, veiling the once familiar night sky with an oppressive skyscape. Their purposes unknown, these Gates are spaces in which the very laws of physics are ignored. With the appearance of the Gates emerged Contractors, who, in exchange for their humanity, are granted supernatural abilities.

In the Japanese city surrounding Hell’s Gate, Section 4 Chief Misaki Kirihara finds herself at odds with an infamous Contractor codenamed Hei. Called “Black Reaper” in the underground world, Hei, like his associates, undertakes missions for the mysterious and ruthless Syndicate while slowly peeling back the dark layers covering a nefarious plot that threatens the very existence of Contractors.

Similarity – Darker than Black has a more supernatural tendency than Black Lagoon, but the idea of mercenaries kicking butt everywhere is pretty much universal to both these anime.
Amazing action sequences, gunfights, agendas and plotting, blood and gore, they’ve got them both. If you want an anime with similar action style, watch this

6. Full Metal Panic!

Synopsis – Seventeen-year-old Sousuke Sagara, a sergeant working for Mithril, has been assigned to protect Kaname Chidori, a Whispered candidate. He is ordered to join her high school class and be as close to her as possible to prevent her from falling into enemy hands—that is, if he can safely blend in with their fellow classmates without revealing his true identity.

Similarity – If you liked Black Lagoon, you may like Full Metal Panic! Both series are action-filled and involve mercenaries and are based on a naval unit. Black Lagoon is a bit darker, more bloody, more philosophical, and a bit more personal in the fights while Full Metal Panic! has more humor and silly episodes. However, when the action starts for Full Metal Panic! and the bullets start flying and people start dying you’ll enjoy this series as well. There’s mech sliding, grenade throwing, RPG launching, booby traps setting, hostage taking, body-guarding, character kidnapping, submarine diving, ambush laying, AK firing, and other assorted mayhem in Full Metal Panic! that will fill the action that you crave

5. GANTZ

Gantz
Synopsis –Thought your life was bad? Sometimes, death is worse. There is no salvation, peace, nor god waiting to receive you into their care. But wait, a god? Maybe you are talking about that big black ball stuck in the room with you. Now you are thrown into a game, fighting green aliens and robot monsters for the chance to survive.

Similarity – As Black Lagoon is filled with criminals spending their time fighting each other or stealing someone’s money or even life, GANTZ is also full of dynamic battles with aliens for staying alive

4. Speed Grapher

Synopsis – en years after the Bubble War, the dichotomy between the rich and the poor in the world becomes more prominent and Japan is no exception. The rich seek to satisfy their desires and derive pleasure for themselves, and Tokyo has materialized into such a city as a result. Saiga, once a war photographer, works for Hibara Ginza in the capitalist state of Tokyo. He infiltrates the Roppongi Club, a secretive base located in the red light district of the city, to collect information about them. However, he was caught in the process and brought forward to a girl called Kagura who was in the midst of a ritual. His contact with Kagura awakens his special ability: the power to make things explode when photographed. In order to unravel the mystery behind the Roppongi Club and Kagura, Saiga begins his solitary battle.

Similarity – Black Lagoon and Speed Grapher both deal with more dark and gritty parts of both humans and society, I think Speed Grapher is a little deeper in content but they are both very good. Both are action-packed and suspenseful. Both have blood, gore, violence, death, and sexual things going on(more sexual things in “Speed Grapher”)

3. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Synopsis – In the not so distant future, mankind has advanced to a state where complete body transplants from flesh to machine is possible. This allows for great increases in both physical and cybernetic prowess and blurring the lines between the two worlds. However, criminals can also make full use of such technology, leading to new and sometimes, very dangerous crimes. In response to such innovative new methods, the Japanese Government has established Section 9, an independently operating police unit which deals with such highly sensitive crimes.

Similarity – Gritty feel with backroom politicking and conspiracy. Strong female lead with a mysterious past and mad skills. Both groups of characters also have a techie character(s), a strongman, someone who is relatively new and inexperienced in their new profession, and side characters to provide the occasional comedic crack. Also explores many questions involving a perceived loss of humanity and psychological well-being, in one falling to savagery and “base” behaviors and the other to in a sea of cybernetic technologies.

2. Gangsta.

Anime Like 91 Days

Synopsis – Nicholas Brown and Worick Arcangelo, known in the city of Ergastalum as the “Handymen,” are mercenaries for hire who take on jobs no one else can handle. Contracted by powerful mob syndicates and police alike, the Handymen have to be ready and willing for anything. After completing the order of killing a local pimp, the Handymen add Alex Benedetto—a prostitute also designated for elimination—to their ranks to protect her from forces that want her gone from the decrepit hellhole of a city she has come to call home. However, this criminal’s paradise is undergoing a profound period of change that threatens to corrode the delicate balance of power.

Similarity – Both shows have a serious tone to them, with action that manages to be flashy and over-the-top without letting itself become too unrealistic.
They also both focus on mercenary organizations that operate outside the law but still manage to have a tentatively good relationship with law enforcement.
The main characters of each show manage to feel somewhat different, although they have a similar level of ideals and morality (or lack thereof) when it comes to the work they do.

1. Golgo 13 (TV)

Synopsis – Golgo 13 is not his real name. Then again, neither is Duke Togo, Tadashi Togo, or any number of the aliases he goes by. A man of mystery, not even the world’s most prominent intelligence agencies can determine who Golgo really is, or just where he came from. But all agree that his skills are nothing short of legendary.

Similarity – Guns! Fights! Shooting! Killing for money!
While both are about crime, Golgo is a perfect professional killer always doing his job alone, Rock is just a salaryman at the start who wouldn’t survive without help of his new friends.
