10. Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi

Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi (Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne)
Synopsis – For normal people, getting stabbed to death would constitute the end of the road. For Rin Asogi, it’s a mere inconvenience. Rin is immortal, a nice perk to have when you’re a private detective constantly finding yourself in dangerous situations.

Rin has eaten a “time fruit”: a fruit from the guardian tree Yggdrasil, which, when consumed by a woman, makes her unable to die. Rin’s immortality doesn’t stop others from trying to kill her, of course; over her long lifetime she has been shot at, cut up, maimed, tortured, and suffered countless other violent deaths.

This time, it’s different. The year 1990 sparks the beginning of a series of events in Rin’s life that sends her spiraling toward her fate. Someone is hunting down immortal women like Rin, and Rin’s life may be in actual danger.

Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi spans 65 years in Rin’s life, during which she watches those around her get old while she herself remains unchanged. Higher forces are after her, and Rin must use every means at her disposal—or her next death may just be her last.

And it all begins when she goes searching for a lost cat, but finds the amnesiac Koki Maeno instead…

Similarity –Basically, both involve immortal people who are able to regenerate themselves completely even after long, insane tortures.
Baccano has more comedy, while Mnemosyne has plenty of ecchi scenes, but still, both anime are dark, violent, mysterious, well-done, and highly enjoyable.

9. Joker Game

Anime Like 91 DaysSynopsis – With World War II right around the corner, intelligence on other countries’ social and economic situation has become a valuable asset. As a result, Japan has established a new spy organization known as the “D Agency” to obtain this weapon.

Under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Yuuki, eight agents have been assigned to infiltrate and observe some of the most powerful countries, reporting on any developments associated with the war. In order to carry out these dangerous tasks, these men have trained their bodies to survive in extreme conditions and studied numerous fields such as communications and languages. However, their greatest strength lies in their ability to manipulate people in order to obtain the information necessary to give their nation the upper hand.

Similarity – If you like Baccano! you will like Joker game for sure!!
First, they are in the same era, second both have similar soundtracks, also they both adapted from a novel.

When watching Joker game you will defiantly remember Baccano! not just for these facts!! They both give off the same air, the tension, also you can’t guess what will happen next!! that’s what makes both series similar and amazing!

8. Gangsta.

Anime Like 91 DaysSynopsis- In the crime-ridden, mafia-governed city of Ergastulum, Worick and Nicolas are two “handymen” known as “Benriya” who would take any dirty job from either police or mafia — for a good price. After an assignment from police, the two met and later joined by Alex, a former prostitute who got interested in the mysterious background of the team, in particular of Nicolas’ abilities.

Similarity – Since Gangsta. deals more of the seriousness of the underworld, Baccano! is the lighter version of that and yet it still retains its action sequences and intrigue in terms of its mysteriousness in certain things. However, there is more comic relief in Baccano! than Gangsta. Both also deal with the heaviness of the characters’ pasts as well as current predicaments.

The biggest difference would be that Baccano! has more characters that take center stage which makes it a little bit more complicated as it also has a wide interval of time that’s involved.

All in call, Baccano! is a less serious version of Gangsta.

7. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Synopsis – Keiichi Maebara has just moved to the quiet little village of Hinamizawa in the summer of 1983, and quickly becomes inseparable friends with schoolmates Rena Ryuuguu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude. However, darkness lurks underneath the seemingly idyllic life they lead.

As the village prepares for its annual festival, Keiichi learns about the local legends surrounding it. To his horror, he discovers that there have been several murders and disappearances in the village in the recent years, and that they all seem to be connected to the festival and the village’s patron god, Oyashiro. Keiichi tries to ask his new friends about these incidents, but they are suspiciously silent and refuse to give him the answers he needs. As more and more bizarre events occur, he wonders just what else his friends might be keeping from him, and if he can even trust them at all.

When madness and paranoia begin taking root in Keiichi’s heart, he will stumble straight into the mysteries at work in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, a story that is told across multiple arcs.

Similarity – There are very mysterious, eerie, and supernatural aspects at work in each anime. The legend of the rail tracer is much like oyashiro. The story is very well told in both anime too, but the styles are very different from each other. There’s also a lot of gory bloodshed in the process.

6. Kekkai Sensen

Synopsis – One day, New York City as we know it vanished overnight into a mysterious fog. Now known as Hellsalem’s Lot, it has become a place where another world beyond imagining is connected to our reality. The balance within this new world is protected by a secret society known as Libra. Leo, a journalist and photographer who arrives in the city, is unexpectedly recruited to join their ranks.

Similarity – Both take place in a fantastical New York City, with some cool action and a jazzy soundtrack you’ll love. Kekkai Sensen is modern-day urban fantasy with a city flooded with mythical creatures living beside humans, where a particular organization performs some crazy action sequences to keep them in line, while Baccano! is more subtle with a non-linear narrative, historical setting during prohibition and great characters, half of which are immortals or in the mafia or arguably insane. If you like one, you’ll definitely see something you like in the other.

5. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Synopsis –Alchemy is bound by this Law of Equivalent Exchange—something the young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric only realize after attempting human transmutation: the one forbidden act of alchemy. They pay a terrible price for their transgression—Edward loses his left leg, Alphonse his physical body. It is only by the desperate sacrifice of Edward’s right arm that he is able to affix Alphonse’s soul to a suit of armor. Devastated and alone, it is the hope that they would both eventually return to their original bodies that give Edward the inspiration to obtain metal limbs called “automail” and become a state alchemist, the Fullmetal Alchemist.

Three years of searching later, the brothers seek the Philosopher’s Stone, a mythical relic that allows an alchemist to overcome the Law of Equivalent Exchange. Even with military allies Colonel Roy Mustang, Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye, and Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes on their side, the brothers find themselves caught up in a nationwide conspiracy that leads them not only to the true nature of the elusive Philosopher’s Stone, but their country’s murky history as well. In between finding a serial killer and racing against time, Edward and Alphonse must ask themselves if what they are doing will make them human again… or take away their humanity.

Similarity – They both involve alchemy and homunculi, and have fighting scenes. Both animes have humor in it, and are set in similar time periods. They share many themes as well, so if you enjoy supernatural things and characters with strong individual personalities, you’ll enjoy it!

4. Black Lagoon

Anime Like 91 Days
Synopsis – Okajima Rokuro is a Japanese businessman…in a town full of Japanese businessmen. His normal day consists of social drinking with clients and being kicked around by his bosses. He finally gets a break though, as he’s sent by his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China to deliver a disc…only his boat gets hijacked by a band of mercenaries that were hired to steal it. “Rock” (as he is newly dubbed by his captors) catches the interest of the only female merc “Revy” as she thinks he’s worth a ransom, taking him hostage. However, the disc turns out to be more trouble than its worth, and complicates things both for Rock, and the mercenaries known as Black Lagoon.

Similarity – Baccano! and Black Lagoon both feature real-world settings that are neither present-day nor Japanese: Baccano! is set in Prohibition-era America, and Black Lagoon takes place on the waters of southeast Asia circa 1990. Both Baccano and Black Lagoon feature criminal protagonists, and neither has any characters that can truly be described as “lawful;” in both series, even the “good guys” are thieves or smugglers. Both feature brawls, gunfights, blood, and gore in great abundance, and both series have great dubs to boot.

3. Cowboy Bebop

Synopsis – In the year 2071, humanity has colonized several of the planets and moons of the solar system leaving the now uninhabitable surface of planet Earth behind. The Inter Solar System Police attempts to keep peace in the galaxy, aided in part by outlaw bounty hunters, referred to as “Cowboys.” The ragtag team aboard the spaceship Bebop are two such individuals.

Mellow and carefree Spike Spiegel is balanced by his boisterous, pragmatic partner Jet Black as the pair makes a living chasing bounties and collecting rewards. Thrown off course by the addition of new members that they meet in their travels—Ein, a genetically engineered, highly intelligent Welsh Corgi; femme fatale Faye Valentine, an enigmatic trickster with memory loss; and the strange computer whiz kid Edward Wong—the crew embarks on thrilling adventures that unravel each member’s dark and mysterious past little by little.

Well-balanced with high-density action and light-hearted comedy, Cowboy Bebop is a space Western classic and an homage to the smooth and improvised music it is named after.

Similarity – Bebop and Baccano! are all about style. It’s the thirties: Tommy guns, stars from black-and-white movies and jazz. Bebop is more like blues with its sadness and noir films features. Baccano! is a jazz like it was in really beginning, totally improvisation. You don’t know what will happen next. Great cocktail from retro, detective stories, comedy, cruelty, and heartbreaks. Both these series was inspired by films like “The Godfather”, “The Untouchables” and so on. You’ll find crime families and gangland killing, fire-fights and pursuits, maniacs and comedy characters in Bebop and Baccano!

2. 91 Days (TV)

Synopsis – During the Prohibition era, in the Lawless district the law has no power, the mafia rule the streets, and the illegally made liquor flows freely. At one time Avilio lived in this district, but after a mafia dispute ended in the murder of his family, he went into hiding. Later, Avilio receives a letter from a mysterious person that ignites his passion for revenge and leads him to return to Lawless. There, he infiltrates the Vanetti family and gets close to Nero.

Similarity – 91 Days and Baccano are both set in the American 1920/30s, with similar animation styles. Both revolve heavily around mafia v. mafia and involve both knife and gun fights.
The main differences and that Baccano has more of a fantasy element and also can be a bit lighter (because of its comedic characters). Seeming to the contrary, Baccano is also a bit more graphic violence-wise.
But overall, very similar atmosphere in both shows.
